Venezuelan League: Games of December 9


LA GUAIRA 7, CARACAS 4 IN LA GUAIRA

Twins:  Shairon Martis (La Guaira) gave up three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out five in 4.2 innings.
Game summary:  La Guaira led 4-1 after four.  Caracas scored two in the fifth, but La Guaira went up 6-3 in the seventh.
Caracas:  Asdrubal Cabrera (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Ramon Cabrera (Detroit) was 2-for-4 and scored once.
La Guaira:  Oscar Salazar was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, scoring twice.  Salvador Perez (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a home run and scored twice.

ZULIA 9, MARGARITA 3 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Darin Mastroianni (Zulia) was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.
Game summary:  Zulia scored four in the second to take a 4-1 lead.  Margarita cut it to 4-3 in the eighth, but Zulia scored five in the bottom of the eighth to put it away.
Margarita:  Dave Sappelt (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Henry Blanco was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Zulia:  Dwayne Pollock allowed two runs on six hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out six.  Sandy Leon (Washington) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

MAGALLANES 9, ARAGUA 3 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 0-for-4.  Josmil Pinto (Aragua) was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) struck out two in two perfect innings.
Game summary:  Aragua scored three in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3, but Magallanes got two more in the sixth.
Magallanes:  Francisco Cervelli (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a home run and scored three times.  Elvis Andrus (Texas) was 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer.
Aragua:  Ronny Cedeno hit a two-run homer.  Jorge Cortes was 1-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

LARA 8, ANZOATEGUI 1 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Bruce Pugh (Anzoategui) allowed one run on one hit and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Game summary:  Lara scored three in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.
Lara:  Brian Sweeney gave up one run on four hits and a walk in five innings, striking out four.  Luis Valbuena (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, driving in five.
Anzoategui:  Alexi Amarista (San Diego) and Jose Castillo were each 2-for-4.
