Games of July 30

Tyler Duffey pitches well in a Red Wings loss.  Kohl Stewart pitches really well in a Red Wings win.  One inning gives the Lookouts a win.  Jhoan Duran pitches seven no-hit innings and Ryan Jeffers has a huge day to lead the Kernels to victory.  Two hits are enough for the GCL Twins.  A good game for Miguel Rodriguez for the DSL Twins.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 4, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER (SCHEDULED GAME)

Tyler Austin hit a three-run homer in the third to give the RailRiders a 3-1 lead.  It was 4-2 going to the ninth.  Edgar Corcino hit a two-out RBI double to make it 4-3.  Gregorio Petit followed with a single, but Corcino was thrown out at the plate.
Corcino had just been promoted to AAA.  The double was his first AAA at-bat.
Dietrich Enns pitched four innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks and striking out two.  Tyler Duffey pitched four shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out three.  His ERA is 1.23.  Luke Bard pitched a scoreless inning, walking one and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.49.

ROCHESTER 1, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 0 IN ROCHESTER (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Jeremy Hazelbaker hit an RBI single with the bases loaded in the eighth inning (an extra inning) to decide the game.
The Red Wings had just two hits.
Kohl Stewart pitched seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Nick Anderson pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.

CHATTANOOGA 3, TENNESSEE 0 IN TENNESSEE

The Lookouts scored all three of their runs in the third inning.
Tanner English was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Mitchell Kranson was 2-for-4 and is batting .301.  Zander Wiel was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .313.
Williams Ramirez pitched two perfect innings, striking out one.  Sean Poppen pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks and striking out two.  Tyler Jay pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Cody Stashak pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

The Kernels scored three in the first, two in the second, and three in the fourth.  The River Bandits had just one hit, a two-out single in the ninth.
Ryan Jeffers was 4-for-4 with a home run, three doubles, and a walk, driving in three.  Jose Miranda was 3-for-5 with a home run (his twelfth) and a double, scoring twice and driving in five.  Michael Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk and is batting .333.
Jhoan Duran struck out eight in seven shutout innings in his Cedar Rapids debut.  He gave up no hits and one walk.  Jared Finkel struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

ELIZABETHTON TWINS

GCL TWINS 1, GCL ORIOLES 0 IN ORIOLES (6-PLUS INNINGS--RAIN)

A sacrifice fly in the fifth brought home the game's only run.
The Twins had just two hits.
Prelander Berroa pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out four.  His ERA is 2.70.  Dylan Stowell struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

DSL TWINS 9, DSL METS1 4 AT TWINS

The Twins scored four in the second and led all the way.  The Mets made three errors in the inning.
Luis Milla was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice.  He is batting .320.  Luis Gomez was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.  Nomar Urdaneta was 2-for-3 and is batting .316.  Ruben Santana was 2-for-4 with two runs and is batting .310.  Victor Heredia was 1-for-5 and is batting .356.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-3 with a double and is batting .308.  Jesus Feliz was 0-for-4 and is batting .306.

Games of July 29

Stephen Gonsalves may have found his control.  A good day for Zander Wiel.  Ernie De La Trinidad leads the Miracle to a win.  No offense for the Kernels.  Chris Williams hits his league-leading eleventh homer in an E-Twins loss.

LOUISVILLE 3, ROCHESTER 2 IN LOUISVILLE (10 INNINGS)

Each team scored two in the third and nothing else until the tenth.  Two strikeouts killed the Red Wings chances in the top of the tenth.  In the bottom of the tenth, a walk and a bunt put men on second and third and Blake Trahan singled home the deciding run.
Rochester had just three hits.  Taylor Motter was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer (his third) to provide both Red Wings runs.
Stephen Gonsalves struck out six in six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk.  He has only walked one in his last two starts (thirteen innings).  Addison Reed pitched a scoreless inning, walking two and striking out one.  John Curtiss struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

TENNESSEE 8, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN TENNESSEE

The Smokies scored two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and four in the seventh to build a 7-0 lead.
Zander Wiel was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring twice.  He is batting .312.  Brent Rooker was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Luis Arraez was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Omar Bencomo struck out five in 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks.

FORT MYERS 8, DAYTONA 6 IN DAYTONA

The Miracle trailed 1-0, led 4-1, and trailed 6-4 before a three-run seventh put them ahead to stay.  Travis Blankenhorn doubled home the tying run and the lead run scored on a wild pitch.
Ernie De La Trinidad was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk, scoring twice.  He is batting .571.  Blankenhorn was 2-for-4 with a triple in addition to the double and drove in two.  Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.  He is batting .381.  Royce Lewis was 2-for-5 with two runs and is batting .302.
Bryan Sammons struck out four in four innings but allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and five walks.  Clark Beeker pitched four shutout innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three.

QUAD CITIES 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The River Bandits scored four in the first and cruised to a win.  The Kernels had just two hits.
Robby Rinn was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .306.
Jordan Balazovic struck out seven in six innings but allowed five runs on nine hits and no walks.  Melvi Acosta struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up one run on four hits.  His ERA is 2.70.

BRISTOL 7, ELIZABETHTON 4 IN ELIZABETHTON (8-PLUS INNINGS--RAIN)

The Twins scored two in the first, but the Pirates scored two in the second and two more in the third and led the rest of the way.  Dean Lockery's two-run homer gave Bristol the lead.
Chris Williams was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his tenth and eleventh) and three RBIs.  His eleven home runs lead the league by two and his 36 RBIs are tied for first.  Michael Helman was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk and is batting .405.  DaShawn Keirsey was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .333.  Jared Akins was 0-for-4 and is batting .333.  Alex Robles was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .320.  Trevor Casanova was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .300.
Brian Rapp struck out five in four innings but allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits.  His ERA is 3.74.  Moises Gomez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Games of July 28

Another poor offensive day for the Red Wings.  A walkoff grand slam sinks the Lookouts.  Brusdar Graterol has a fine game for the Miracle.  Derek Molina pitches well in a Kernels loss.  Josh Winder has an excellent game for the E-Twins.  Alberoni Nunez has a big day for the GCL Twins.  Home runs power a DSL Twins comeback.

LOUISVILLE 5, ROCHESTER 2 IN LOUISVILLE

A sacrifice fly in the seventh put the Bats up 3-2 and they got two insurance runs in the eighth.  Gregorio Petit brought home both Red Wings runs with a single in the sixth.
Rochester had just four hits.
D. J. Baxendale struck out four in four innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.  Trevor May struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

TENNESSEE 4, CHATTANOOGA 1 IN TENNESSEE

Chris Paul homered leading off the fourth, and for a long time it looked like the 1-0 lead would hold up.  In the bottom of the ninth, a walk, a single, and a walk loaded the bases, and Wynton Bernard hit a two-out walkoff grand slam for the Smokies.
Paul was 3-for-4 with a double in addition to the home run, which was his sixth.  Zander Wiel was 2-for-4 and is batting .307.
Ryan Eades pitched two perfect innings, striking out one.  Anthony Marzi pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks and striking out four.  Williams Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks and striking out one.

FORT MYERS 5, DAYTONA 1 IN DAYTONA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Royce Lewis had a two-run single in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.  The Miracle added another run in the fifth and one more in the seventh.
Lewis was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  He is batting .309.  Taylor Grzelakowski was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Alex Kirilloff was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .382.  Victor Tademo was 0-for-2 with a walk and is 0-for-5 since his promotion to Fort Myers.
Brusdar Graterol had his best game since his promotion to high-A.  He struck out ten in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks.  Jovani Moran retired all four men he faced, striking out two.

DAYTONA 5, FORT MYERS 4 IN DAYTONA (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Tortugas built a 5-0 lead through five.  The Miracle scored all four runs in the sixth, with three of them coming when Ernie De La Trinidad circled the bases on a single-plus-error.  They did not get the tying run on base.
Alex Kirilloff was 1-for-3 with a double and is batting .381.  De La Trinidad was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in his Twins organization debut.
Andro Cutura pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks and striking out four.

QUAD CITIES 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The River Bandits scored two in the third to take a 3-1 lead and held on.  The Kernels made it 3-2 in the fourth.
Trey Cabbage was 2-for-4.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-5.  Michael Davis was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .314.
Blayne Enlow pitched six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and one walk and striking out one.  Derek Molina struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up three walks.  His ERA is 2.89.  Rickey Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

ELIZABETHTON 5, BRISTOL 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins scored two in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the seventh.  The lone Pirates hit came with one out in the fifth.
Michael Helman was 3-for-4 and is batting .412.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .350.  DaShawn Keirsey was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  He is batting .338.  Alex Robles was 1-for-4 and is batting .328.

The Twins led 3-0 and 4-2 but needed a run in the eighth to break a 4-4 tie.  Alberoni Nunez doubled home the lead run.
Nunez was 3-for-4 with a double.  Estamy Urena was 2-for-4.  Austin Hale was 2-for-4.  Hunter Lee was 1-for-3 with two walks and a home run, scoring twice.  He is batting .316.
Andriu Marin struck out seven in four innings, giving up two runs on three hits.  Steven Cruz pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk and striking out one.  Petru Balan struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  His ERA is 1.15.  Osiris German struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  His ERA is 2.51.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL ROCKIES 6 AT TWINS

The Twins trailed 4-0 and 5-1, but scored two in the second and three in the third to go ahead 6-5.  They then scored two more in the fourth.  Wander Valdez homered to tie it and Jim Caceras homered to put the Twins in front to stay.
Caceras was 2-for-3 and the home run was his third.  Nomar Urdaneta was 2-for-3 with a triple and is batting .303.  Valdez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and the home run was his third.  Victor Heredia was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer (his sixth) and scored twice.  He is batting .361.  Jesus Feliz was 1-for-3 and is batting .317.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-2 with a triple and two walks and is batting .307.  Felix Reyes was 0-for-4 and is batting .077.
Alex Banks pitched just two-thirds of an inning, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks.  Cristian Castro struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Yolby Guzman struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Games of July 27

Willians Astudillo keeps hitting.  Brent Rooker hits his twentieth home run, but Lewis Thorpe is the big star for the Lookouts.  A big game for Akil Baddoo.  A big inning leads the E-Twins.  Two big innings lead the GCL Twins.  Jesus Feliz comes through twice for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 5, LOUISVILLE 3 IN LOUISVILLE

The Red Wings scored three in the first and led all the way.  Byron Buxton led off the game with a home run and Andy Wilkins had a two-run single later in the inning.
Willians Astudillo was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Wilkins was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Buxton was 1-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a walk and scored twice.
Nick Anderson was the opener and pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.  Zack Littell struck out six in five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks.  Jake Reed struck out three in two perfect innings.  His ERA is 2.48.

CHATTANOOGA 5, PENSACOLA 0 IN PENSACOLA

Leading 1-0, the Lookouts scored four in the fourth to put the game out of reach.  Alex Perez had a two-run double in the inning.
Brent Rooker was 2-for-4 with a home run (his twentieth) and scored twice.  Zander Wiel was 0-for-3 and is batting .304.  Mitchell Kranson was 0-for-2 and is batting .302.
Lewis Thorpe struck out seven in seven shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Cody Stashak struck out all three batters he faced.  Ryne Harper pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  His ERA is 2.54.

Rained out.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, CLINTON 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (10 INNINGS)

The LumberKings tied it 2-2 in the ninth.  In the tenth, an error, an intentional walk, and an accidental walk brought home the deciding run.
Akil Baddoo was 3-for-3 with two walks.  Jared Akins was 3-for-4.  Robby Rinn was 0-for-4 and is batting .309.
Bailey Ober was removed after three innings for no obvious reason.  He gave up one run on two hits and no walks and struck out two.  Jose Martinez pitched three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out two.  Calvin Faucher pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two walks and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.30.

ELIZABETHTON 8, BRISTOL 5 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins scored five in the first and led all the way, although the Pirates twice closed to within one.  Ricky De La Torre hit a two-run homer in the first inning.
De La Torre was 2-for-4 with a double in addition to the home run (his third).  He scored three times and drove in three.  Lean Marrero was 2-for-4.  Yunior Severino was 2-for-5 with a double and is batting .300.  DaShawn Keirsey was 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk and is batting .338.  Alex Robles was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .331.  Trevor Larnach was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .310.
Carlos Suniaga pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk and striking out three.  Seth Pinkerton struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

DSL TWINS 5, DSL ROCKIES 4 AT ROCKIES

Jesus Feliz hit a two-run double in the seventh to tie it 3-3, but a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning put the Rockies up 4-3.  No problem, as Feliz had an RBI double in the ninth to tie it and scored on a wild pitch.
Feliz was 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs.  He is batting .316.  Luis Gomez was 2-for-3.  Victor Heredia was 2-for-5 with two doubles and is batting .364.  Ruben Santana was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .304.  Luis Milla was 1-for-4 with a home run (his third) and is batting .302.
Jose Bermudez struck out seven in five innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.  Fernando Sanchez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.  Jose Guevera struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 0.87,

INDIANAPOLIS 4, ROCHESTER 0 IN INDIANAPOLIS

The Indians scored three in the first and one in the fifth.  The Red Wings had just four hits.
Fernando Romero pitched well after the first inning.  He went 7.2, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk and striking out two.  His ERA is 2.95.

PENSACOLA 4, CHATTANOOGA 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

Aristedes Aquino singled home a run in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie.  Two errors led to two insurance runs for the Blue Wahoos in the eighth.
Brent Rooker was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Zander Wiel was 0-for-4 and is batting .307.  Chris Paul was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.

Triples by Jim Caceras and Wander Javier in the second inning put the Twins ahead 2-1.  The Yankees had just one hit after the second inning.

Games of July 25

Willians Astudillo goes deep in a loss.  A good game for Sean Poppen in a loss.  Tyler Wells has an excellent game in a win.  Jose Miranda and Edwar Colina lead the Kernels to victory.  Michael Helman has no problem handling the Appalachian League.  Donny Breek leads the GCL Twins to a win.  A big inning sinks the DSL Twins.

INDIANAPOLIS 3, ROCHESTER 1 IN INDIANAPOLIS

The Indians went up 2-1 on a Jose Osuna single and got an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.  The Red Wings had two men on in the seventh but did not threaten after that.
LaMonte Wade was 2-for-4.  Willians Astudillo was 1-for-4 with a home run, his eighth.
Gabriel Moya was the opener and pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Kohl Stewart pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks and striking out three.  Tyler Duffey pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.38.  John Curtiss pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

PENSACOLA 5, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Blue Wahoos led 5-0 after five.  The Lookouts came back with three in the sixth and one in the ninth and had the bases loaded when the game ended.
Mitchell Kranson was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks and is batting .309.  Brian Navarreto was 2-for-4 with a double.  Chris Paul was 2-for-5 with a double.  Zander Wiel was 2-for-5 with a double and is batting .311.
Using an opener did not pay off, as Paco Rodriguez pitched the first innings and allowed three runs on two hits and two walks and struck out one.  Sean Poppen then came in and struck out seven in seven innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk.  Ryan Eades pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.

FORT MYERS 2, JUPITER 1 IN JUPITER

The Miracle scored both of their runs in the fourth, with Taylor Grzelakowski bringing home one with a double and scoring on an Alex Kirilloff single.  The lone Hammerheads run came in the seventh.
Kirilloff was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .374.
Tyler Wells struck out ten in eight innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.  His ERA is 2.80.  Jovani Moran struck out two in a perfect ninth.  His ERA is 1.69.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, CLINTON 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Leading 3-0, the Kernels scored four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  The two Lumber Kings runs came in the eighth.
Jose Miranda was 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Akil Baddoo was 2-for-3 with a home run (his ninth) and a walk, scoring three times.  Michael Davis was 2-for-4 with a home run, scoring twice.  He is batting .360.  Robby Rinn was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and is batting .312.
Edwar Colina struck out nine in seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.  Rickey Ramirez struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

ELIZABETHTON 6, BURLINGTON 5 IN BURLINGTON

The Twins led 4-1 through four, but the Royals scored four in the fifth to go up 5-4.  Lean Marrero doubled home a run in the sixth to tie it and Robert Molina singled one home in the seventh to put the Twins in front.  The Royals put the tying run on second in the seventh but did not do so again.
Michael Helman was 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs and is batting .423.  Alex Robles was 3-for-5 and is batting .342.  Robert Molina was 2-for-5 and is batting .375.  Trevor Larnach was 0-for-4 and is batting .375.  Trevor Casanova was 0-for-5 and is batting .301.
Tyler Palm pitched four innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks and striking out three.  Johan Quezada struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Zach Neff pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

GCL TWINS 3, GCL RAYS 0 AT RAYS

The Twins scored two in the second and one in the ninth.  The Rays had just two hits.
Kidany Salva was 2-for-3.  Erick Rivera was 2-for-5.
Donny Breek struck out nine in five shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 2.05.  Dylan Stowell struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.  Erik Cha struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  His ERA is 1.35.

DSL YANKEES 11, DSL TWINS 2 AT YANKEES

It was already 6-2 when the Yankees scored five in the seventh to put it out of reach.  Angel Rojas hit a three-run homer in the inning.
Ruben Santana was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk and is batting .312.  Luis Milla was 1-for-4 and is batting .304.  Brahiap Carrillo was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .301.
Yordin Mateo struck out two in 1.2 innings but allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk.  Fernando Sanchez pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.
