Games of August 30

Byron Buxton stays hot.  Mitchell Kranson homers.  Alex Kirilloff also homers.  Michael Helman keeps hitting.  The E-Twins start the playoffs tonight.

ROCHESTER 6, BUFFALO 1 IN ROCHESTER

The Bisons scored one in the top of the first, but the Red Wings came back with two in the first, one in the third, and three in the fourth.
LaMonte Wade was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Byron Buxton was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-5.
Ryan Eades struck out four in 3.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 0.68.  Luke Bard struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Andrew Vasquez struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  His ERA is 1.59.  Tyler Duffey retired all four men he faced, striking out two.  His ERA is 2.90.

JACKSON 2, CHATTANOOGA 1 IN JACKSON

MItchell Kranson homered in the sixth to tie it 1-1.  Jay Gonzalez had an RBI single in the seventh to put the Generals in the lead to stay.
Kranson was 2-for-4 and the home run was his third.
Austin Adams was the opener.  He pitched two shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.  His ERA is 1.29.  Jorge Alcala struck out five in 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks.  Cody Stashak retired all four men he faced, striking out two.  His ERA is 2.65.

FORT MYERS 3, BRADENTON 0 IN FORT MYERS

All the runs were scored in the sixth.  Alex Kirilloff hit a two-run homer and Ryan Costello hit a solo homer.
Costello was 2-for-4 and the home run was his fourth.  Kirilloff was 1-for-4 and the home run was his sixth.  He is batting .363.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 0-for-3 and is batting .301.
Charlie Barnes struck out five in 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 2.81.  Jovani Moran retired all ten men he faced, striking out four.  His ERA is 2.45.  Colton Davis pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

CEDAR RAPIDS 11, BURLINGTON 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Trailing 3-2, the Kernels scored eight runs in the sixth to take control of the game.  Michael Davis hit a two-run triple in the inning and Trey Cabbage hit a three-run double.
Davis was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs and is batting .310.  Michael Helman was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  He is batting .380.  Victor Tademo was 2-for-4 and is batting .429.  Trevor Larnach was 1-for-2 with a home run (his third) and three walks, scoring three times.
Jhoan Duran pitched four innings, giving up three unearned runs on three hits and three walks and striking out three.  Derek Molina struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up one hit.  His ERA is 2.25.  Rickey Ramirez pitched two shutout innings, giving up a walk and striking out one.

PENNANT RACE UPDATE

Fort Myers is in first place by 1.5 games, as Charlotte dropped both ends of a doubleheader.  The Miracle has three games remaining and the Stone Crabs have four, as they play another doubleheader today.
Cedar Rapids is in first place by 5.5 games with four to play, and so has clinched the division.
Elizabethton won their division by seven games.  They begin a best-of-three playoff series in Kingsport tonight.

Zander Wiel hits two home runs.  Ben Rortvedt hits a grand slam.  Michael Helman drives in three runs.  Tyler Palm pitches well as the E-Twins prepare for the playoffs.

ROCHESTER 4, BUFFALO 1 IN ROCHESTER

Zander Wiel hit a home run in the first to make it 1-0 and hit a two-run homer in the third to make it 3-0.
Wiel was 2-for-4.
Chase De Jong pitched six innings, giving up one run on eight hits and one walk and striking out five.  Jake Reed struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 1.89.  Tyler Duffey pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.  His ERA is 2.97.

FORT MYERS 8, BRADENTON 3 IN FORT MYERS

Ben Rortvedt hit a grand slam in the fourth to give the Miracle a 5-0 lead.  Fort Myers had three doubles in a three-run fifth to put the game out of reach.
Rortvedt was 3-for-4 with six RBIs and the grand slam was his fourth home run.  Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, scoring three times.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-4 with a double.  Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-5 with a double and is batting .364.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-4 and is batting .313.
Clark Beeker pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk and striking out six.  Hector Lujan struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.42.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, BURLINGTON 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored four in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.  Michael Helman had a two-run single in the inning.
Gabriel Maciel was 3-for-4.  Helman was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  He is batting .375.  Ryan Jeffers was 3-for-5 and is batting .306.  Ariel Montesino was 2-for-3 with a double.  Michael Davis was 2-for-4.
Blayne Enlow struck out seven in five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.  Jose Martinez struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up only a walk.  Johan Quezada pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out one.  His ERA is 1.17.

PULASKI 5, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN ELIZABETHTON

It was scoreless through six.  The Yankees scored two in the seventh, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth.  The Twins scored both of their runs in the ninth and had the tying run up to bat with one out.
Yeltsin Encarnacion was 3-for-5.  Alex Robles was 2-for-4.
Tyler Palm pitched five shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks and striking out four.  Austin Schulfer struck out two in a perfect inning.  His ERA is 1.58.
This concludes Elizabethton's season.  The Twins finished 39-27 and being their playoff series Friday.

PENNANT RACE UPDATE

Fort Myers trails Charlotte by two percentage points, due to the fact that the Stone Crabs have played two fewer games.  They are tied if you look at "Games Back".  Charlotte is scheduled to play doubleheaders today and tomorrow to make up those two games.
Cedar Rapids is in first place, leading Peoria by 4.5 games with five games to play.  The Kernels have clinched a playoff spot.
Elizabethton finished the season 39-27.  They won the AL West by seven games.  They will play Kingsport in a best-of-three series starting Friday.

ROCHESTER 5, BUFFALO 4 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Byron Buxton doubled home Juan Graterol in the sixth to break a 4-4 tie.  The Red Wings had scored four in the third to take a 4-2 lead, but the Bisons tied it in the fourth.
Buxton was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  He is batting .386 (17-for-44) in his last ten games and has raised his season average in Rochester from .214 to .273 (128 at-bats).  Gregorio Petit was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.  Graterol was 2-for-3 with a double and is batting .304.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-3.
Zack Littell pitched six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk and striking out five.  Andrew Vasquez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.  His ERA is 2.25.

ROCHESTER 6, BUFFALO 4 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Red Wings scored three in the third to take a 5-3 lead.  Kennys Vargas hit a two-run double in the inning to put Rochester in the lead to stay.
Nick Gordon was 3-for-4.  Jeremy Hazelbaker was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Gregorio Petit was 2-for-4 with a double.
It was a bullpen game.  D. J. Baxendale started and pitched 2.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk and striking out one.

JACKSONVILLE 9, CHATTANOOGA 2 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Jumbo Shrimp scored three in the second and three in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead.
Jordan Gore was 2-for-3.  Andy Wilkins was 1-for-3 with a home run, his eleventh.  He has hit a home run in each of his last four games.
Tyler Jay was the opener and pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Sean Poppen then pitched four innings and allowed seven runs (six earned) on ten hits and a walk and striking out three.  Sam Clay struck out four in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Williams Ramirez pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

FORT MYERS 2, BRADENTON 1 IN FORT MYERS (10 INNINGS)

The Marauders tied the score 1-1 in the ninth.  In the tenth, Travis Blankenhorn singled home Ryan Costello with the deciding run.
Blankenhorn was 2-for-4 with a double.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-4.  He is 9-for-20 in his last six games, raising his average from .176 to .204.  Alex Kirilloff was 0-for-4 and is batting .364.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-3 and is batting .316.
Andro Cutura pitched six shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk and striking out five.  Ryan Mason struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 2.94.  Alex Phillips made his professional debut with a perfect inning, striking out one.

ELIZABETHTON 8, PULASKI 5 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins scored six in the third to take an 8-0 lead.  The Yankees came back with four in the fourth but got only one more in the eighth.
Jared Akins was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring two.  Lean Marrero was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Gilberto Celestino was 2-for-4 with a double.  Trevor Casanova was 0-for-3 and is batting .331.
Andrew Cabezas was the opener and pitched a perfect inning, striking out two.  His ERA is 2.74.  It was a bullpen game from there, with no one pitching more than 2.2 innings.  Jacob Blank pitched a perfect inning, striking out two.

SYRACUSE 6, ROCHESTER 3 IN SYRACUSE

The Red Wings led 3-1 after five, but the Chiefs scored three in ghte sixth to go into the lead to stay.  Irving Falu's bunt single-plus-error brought home the lead run.
Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 with a double.  He is batting .350 (14-for-40) in his last nine games.
Fernando Romero pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and no walks and striking out five.

CHATTANOOGA 4, JACKSONVILLE 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

Andy Wilkins homered in a two-run second and the Lookouts added two runs on just one hit in the seventh.  The lone Jumbo Shrimp run came in the ninth.
Wilkins was 1-for-2 with two walks and the home run was his tenth.
Casey Crosby was the opener, striking out three in two shutout innings while giving up two hits and two walks.  Omar Bencomo pitched five shutout innings, giving up five hits and no walks and striking out four.

FORT MYERS 3, BRADENTON 2 IN FORT MYERS

The Miracle scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth to take a 3-0 lead.  The Marauders scored two in the ninth and had the tying run on base with one out.
Alex Kirilloff was 3-for-4 with a double and is batting .370.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.
Brusdar Graterol struck out six in 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  He has a 1.77 ERA in his last six starts (35.2 innings).  Colton Davis struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and no walks.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, KANE COUNTY 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Michael Davis and Victor Tademo hit back-to-back homers in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.  The lone Cougar run came in the seventh.
Davis was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and the home run was his eighth.  Tademo was 1-for-3 with a home run in his Cedar Rapids debut.  Michael Helman was 1-for-4 and is batting .361.
Randy Dobnak pitched seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks and striking out four.  He has a 1.79 ERA in his last ten games (55.1 innings).  Jared Finkel pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks and striking out one.

ELIZABETHTON 6, PULASKI 2 IN ELIZABETHTON

Two walks and an error brought home two runs in the fourth to give the Twins a 4-0 lead.  The Yankees scored two in the fifth, but Elizabethton got a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a Robert Molina single.
Jared Akins was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Jean Carlos Arias was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs.  Trevor Casanova was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  He is batting .340.
It appears to have been a bullpen game, or perhaps simply tuning people up for the playoffs.  Luis Rijo started and struck out four in two perfect innings.  Blair Lasko struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up two walks.  Tanner Howell pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Fort Myers remains second and remains 1.5 games behind Charlotte.
Cedar Rapids remains first and has clinched a playoff spot, though they have not yet clinched the division title.  They lead Peoria by 3.5 games with six games to play.

Games of August 26

A big game for Byron Buxton.  Dietrich Enns pitches very well.  Aaron Whitefield has 67% of his team's hits.  Tyler Watson has a solid game.  Trevor Casanova keeps hitting.

SYRACUSE 3, ROCHESTER 2 IN SYRACUSE (11 INNINGS)

Irving Falu homered in the eighth to tie it 2-2.  The Red Wings loaded the bases with one out in the top of the eleventh, but a double play ended the inning.  In the bottom of the inning, Tuffy Gosewisch singled home the winning run for the Chiefs.
Byron Buxton was 3-for-5 with a triple and a double, driving in two.  He is batting .333 (12-for-36) in his last eight games.
Lewis Thorpe struck out six in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.  Andrew Vasquez struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

CHATTANOOGA 2, JACKSONVILLE 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Lookouts scored single runs in the second and third.  The lone Jumbo Shrimp run scored in the sixth.  Neither team got a hit after the sixth inning.
Andy Wilkins was 1-for-3 with a home run, his ninth.
Austin Adams was the opener, striking out three in two shutout innings and giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 1.80.  Dietrich Enns struck out eight in seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.

The Mets scored two in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie and added two in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  The Miracle had just three hits.
Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-3.  Alex Kirilloff was 1-for-4 and is batting .363.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 0-for-3 and is batting .315.  Taylor Grzelakowski was 0-for-4 and is batting .301.
Edwar Colina pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks and striking out two.  Hector Lujan struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 2.50.

CEDAR RAPIDS 10, KANE COUNTY 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored four in the first and led all the way.  Jacob Pearson hit a two-run homer in the inning.

ELIZABETHTON 9, BRISTOL 4 IN BRISTOL

The Twins scored three in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.  The Pirates cut the margin to 5-4, but the Twins got three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Albie Weiss was 4-for-5 with a double.  Trevor Casanova was 4-for-6 with two doubles and is batting .341.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Alex Robles was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  He is batting .300.  Yunior Severino was 2-for-5 with a walk.  Chris Williams was 2-for-5 with a walk.
Kody Funderburk pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk and striking out four.  Pedro Garcia pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks and striking out two.

The Red Wings scored all three of their runs in the fifth.  One came on a bases-loaded walk and two on a single by Gregorio Petit.
Alex Perez was 1-for-3 and is batting .375.
It was a bullpen game.  Ryan Eades struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks.  His ERA is 0.90.  Luke Bard pitched three innings, giving up a run on six hits.  D. J. Baxendale struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  John Curtiss pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two walks.  His ERA is 2.75.

JACKSONVILLE 5, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

It was scoreless through seven.  John Norwood homered in the eighth to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 1-0 lead.  The Lookouts came back with four in the bottom of the eighth, getting a three-run homer from Andy Wilkins.  Jacksonville won it with four in the ninth, with a Brian Miller double driving home the deciding run.
Tanner English was 2-for-2 with a triple.  Joe Cronin made his AA debut and went 1-for-2.
Tyler Wells struck out seven in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.  His ERA is 1.67.

ST. LUCIE 5, FORT MYERS 2 IN ST. LUCIE

The Mets scored two in the third to take a 3-0 lead and never led by less than two.  The Miracle scored single runs in the fourth and eighth.
Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  He is batting .365.  Robby Rinn was 2-for-4.
Griffin Jax pitched five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks and striking out one.  Adam Bray struck out three in three innings, giving up one run on two hits.  His ERA is 1.27.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, KANE COUNTY 2 IN KANE COUNTY

Trevor Larnach hit a two-run single in a three-run first and the Kernels led all the way.  Michael Davis hit a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 6-2.
Akil Baddoo was 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Davis was 2-for-4 with a home run (his seventh) and three RBIs.  Larnach was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and is batting .310.  Michael Helman was 2-for-5 with a double and is batting .368.
Carlos Suniaga pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk and striking out four.  Zach Neff struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit in his Class A debut.  Rickey Ramirez pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.

ELIZABETHTON 7, BRISTOL 5 IN BRISTOL

The Twins scored four in the second and led the rest of the way.  Yeltsin Encarnacion hit a two-run double and Yunior Severino hit a two-run homer in the inning.
Gilberto Celestino was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, his seventh.  Encarnacion was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.
Josh Winder struck out seven in five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks.  Erik Cha struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk in his Appalachian League debut.

GCL TWINS 7, GCL RED SOX 6 AT TWINS (13 INNINGS)

It was 5-5 through nine.  Each team scored once in the tenth.  Despite the Manfred Rule, neither team scored in the eleventh or twelfth.  In the thirteenth, the Twins won the game as Tyler Webb scored from second on a ground ball single to shortstop by Hunter Lee.
Estamy Urena was 3-for-5 and scored twice.  Shane Carrier was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer.  He is batting .387 in his rehab assignment.
Kai-Wei Teng pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out three.  Denny Bentley pitched a scoreless inning, walking one and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.60.  Michael Montero retired all eleven batters he faced, striking out two.  His ERA is 2.41.
This concludes the GCL Twins' season.  They finished 32-24, third in the GCL South, 1.5 games behind the Red Sox.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL CARDINALS BLUE 3 AT CARDINALS BLUE

The Twins broke up a scoreless tie with a four-run seventh.  Ruben Santana hit a two-run triple and Victor Heredia hit a two-run single in the inning.

Jose Bermudez pitched five shutout innings, giving up six hits and no walks and striking out three.
This concludes the DSL Twins' season.  They finished 50-22, in second place in the DSL South, one game behind the Cardinals Blue.  Their winning percentage was fifth-best in the league.

Games of August 24

A good day for Jimmy Kerrigan.  Alex Kirilloff keeps hitting.  A fine game for Jhoan Duran.  A big game for Alex Robles.  Donny Breek pitches well.  The DSL Twins are eliminated.

SYRACUSE 3, ROCHESTER 0 IN SYRACUSE

Yadiel Hernandez homered in the second and Chris Dominguez had a two-run single in the eighth.  The Red Wings had just four hits.
Juan Graterol was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .304.
Chase De Jong pitched 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk and striking out four.  Jake Reed pitched 1.2 perfect innings, striking out one.  His ERA is 2.03.

CHATTANOOGA 4, JACKSONVILLE 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Lookouts scored three in the first, but it was 3-3 through three.  A sacrifice fly brought home the deciding run in the sixth.
Jimmy Kerrigan was 3-for-4.  Jaylin Davis was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Tanner English was 2-for-4 with a double.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 with a home run (his second) and two RBIs.  He is batting .302.
Jorge Alcala pitched five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks and striking out four.  Sam Clay struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Devin Smeltzer struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

FORT MYERS 3, ST. LUCIE 2 IN ST. LUCIE

The Miracle scored single runs in the third, fourth, and eighth to take a 3-1 lead.  The Mets got within one in the eighth but did not get the tying run past first base.
Ernie De La Trinidad was 2-for-4 and is batting .333.  Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-5 and is batting .363.  Taylor Grzelakowski was 2-for-5 and is batting .308.
Charlie Barnes pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk and striking out two.  His ERA is 2.93.  Ryan Mason pitched three innings, giving up one run on two hits and striking out two.  Hector Lujan struck out two in a perfect inning.  His ERA is 2.54.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, KANE COUNTY 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Michael Helman homered in the first and Michael Davis hit a two-run single in the seventh.  The Cougars scored their lone run in the eighth on a balk.
Ben Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Helman was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and is batting .366.
Jhoan Duran struck out ten in 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and three walks.

ELIZABETHTON 7, BRISTOL 3 IN BRISTOL

Leading 4-3, the Twins scored three in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  The runs scored on two sacrifice flies and an error.
Alex Robles was 4-for-5 with a double and is batting .302.  Trevor Casanova was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a walk, scoring twice.  He is batting .326.  DaShawn Keirsey was 1-for-5 and is batting .301.
Austin Schulfer pitched five innings, giving up three unearned runs on six hits and three walks and striking out four.  His ERA is 1.62.  J. T. Perez struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Blair Lasko pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one.

GCL TWINS 7, GCL RED SOX 1 AT RED SOX

Tyler Webb hit a two-run double in the first and the Twins never trailed.  It was 2-1 after two, but the Twins put up a fence post in the third, fourth, fifth, eighth, and ninth.
Yeison Perez was 2-for-2 with a double.  Charles Mack was 2-for-4 with a double.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 2-for-5 with a double.  Shane Carrier was 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  He is batting .385 in a rehab assignment.  Webb was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in two.  He is batting .300.
Donny Breek pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits two walks and striking out four.  His ERA is 2.89.  Osiris German pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.57.  Junior Navas struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  His ERA is 1.38.  Frandy Torres pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

DSL CARDINALS BLUE 2, DSL TWINS 1 AT TWINS

Back-to-back doubles with two out in the ninth brought home the deciding run for the Cardinals Blue.  The doubles were hit by Pablo Gomez and Darlin Moquete.
Jeferson Morales was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk and is batting .303.  Ruben Santana was 2-for-4 and is batting .320.  Victor Heredia was 0-for-5 and is batting .329.  Luis Gomez was 0-for-2 and is batting .326.  Luis Milla was 1-for-2 with a triple and two walks and is batting .308.
Danny Moreno was the opener and pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  His ERA is 1.14.  Jesus Toledo struck out six in 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits.

PENNANT RACE UPDATE

Fort Myers remains in second, but is now just a half-game behind Charlotte.
Cedar Rapids remains first, but its lead over Peoria fell to 2.5 games.
Elizabethton remains first and increases its lead over Kingsport to four games.
The DSL Twins remain second, but are two games back with one to play and so have been eliminated from the playoffs.
