Games of June 29

Taylor Rogers shines as the Red Wings throw a pair of shutouts.  Adam Brett Walker II hits homer number XXIII.  A solid game for Kohl Stewart.  A better game for Sam Gibbons.  An even better game for Dereck Rodriguez.  Fine pitching for the GCL and the DSL Twins, too.

ROCHESTER 6, PAWTUCKET 0 IN ROCHESTER (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring three times and driving in one.  Oswaldo Arcia was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Doug Bernier was 3-for-4 with a run.
Pitching stars:  Taylor Rogers pitched seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Pat Dean had started and pitched two shutout innings before the game was suspended, giving up two hits and no walks with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  None.
The game:  The game had been suspended after two innings with the Red Wings leading 1-0.  It stayed 1-0 until the sixth, when Rodriguez led off with a double and scored on a pair of productive outs.  The Red Wings put the game away in the seventh with a four-run inning, getting two singles, a walk, an RBI triple by Rodriguez, and two more singles.  The Red Sox' only threat came in the first inning, when they put a man on third with two out.
Of note:  James Beresford was 0-for-4 with a run.  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-2 with an RBI.  Eric Fryer was 0-for-3.  Danny Ortiz was 1-for-4 with a run.

ROCHESTER 3, PAWTUCKET 0 IN ROCHESTER (SCHEDULED GAME--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Argenis Diaz was 2-for-2 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jose Martinez was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Logan Darnell pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Caleb Thielbar pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks.  A. J. Achter pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Allen Craig was 2-for-3 with a double.  Dalier Hinojosa pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with one strikeout.
The game:  A sacrifice fly brought home a run in the first, Martinez doubled one home in the third, and Diaz singled one in during the fifth.  The Red Sox' biggest threat came in the fifth when, with two out and none on, they got two walks and an error to load the bases.  A force out ended the inning.
Of note:  James Beresford was 0-for-3.

MONTGOMERY 5, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN MONTGOMERY

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a home run, his twenty-third.  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-4 with a home run.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-3 with two walks.
Pitching stars:  Brandon Peterson pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk with one strikeout.  J. T. Chargois struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.
Opposition stars:  Cameron Seitzer was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his sixth.  Patrick Leonard was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, driving in one.  Blake Snell pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
The game:  Seitzer hit a three-run homer in the third to put the Biscuits ahead 4-0.  Walker II homered in the fourth to make it 4-1 but the Biscuits got the run back in the sixth.  The Lookouts scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth, but they stranded two runners in each of those innings.  The Lookouts stranded ten in the game and were 0-for-9 with men in scoring position.
Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk.  Max Kepler was 1-for-5 with a double.  Jason Wheeler struck out seven in 5.2 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk.

DUNEDIN 3, FORT MYERS 1 IN DUNEDIN

Batting stars:  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Alex Swim was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars:  Kohl Stewart pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Alex Muren pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits with one strikeout.  D. J. Johnson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Anthony Alford was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Matt Dean was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Jeremy Gabryszwski pitched six innings, allowing one run on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
The game:  Alford doubled and scored in the first and Dean's single-plus-error brought home two in the third.  The lone Miracle run came in the sixth on Swim's RBI double.  The Miracle had the bases loaded with one out, but could not score again and did not threaten after that inning.
Of note:  Marcus Knecht was 0-for-3.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, WISCONSIN 0 IN WISCONSIN

Batting stars:  Jorge Fernandez was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Zack Larson was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in one.
Pitching stars:  Sam Gibbons pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and four walks with five strikeouts.  Luke Bard struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Trevor Hildenberger pitched a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Francisco Casillo was 2-for-4.  Luis Ortega struck out four in four innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks.
The game:  Larson doubled in a run in the fourth, Gordon singled one home in the seventh, and the Kernels added two in the ninth.  The Timber Rattlers' biggest threat came in the third, when three walks filled the bases.
Of note:  Tanner English was 2-for-5.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-5.  Alex Real was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

ELIZABETHTON 6, BRISTOL 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Kamran Young was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Rainis Silva was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Nelson Molina was 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Dereck Rodriguez struck out seven in seven shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  C. K. Irby pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.  Tyler Stirewalt pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition star:  Palmer Betts struck out five in five innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks.
The game:  The Twins scored one in the first, two in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth.  Meanwhile, Rodriguez did not allow a baserunner until issuing a two-out walk in the fifth and did not give up ahead until there was one out in the seventh.  The only Pirate threat came in the ninth, when they put two men on with none out, but a double play and a fly out ended the game.
Of note:  Sean Miller was 0-for-4 with an RBI.  Austin Diemer was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Tyler Kuresa was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.  Amaurys Minier was 1-for-4 with a run.

GCL TWINS 3, GCL RAYS 1 AT RAYS

Batting stars:  Luis Martinez was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-4.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Pitching stars:  Randy Rosario pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Moises Gomez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk with one strikeout.  Johan Quezada struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings.
Opposition stars:  Oscar Rojas was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Juan Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Jose Disla pitched 4.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
The game:  The Twins pulled off a double steal of second and home in the fifth to take a 1-0 lead.  Martinez singled home a pair of runs in the seventh to make it 3-0.  The Rays got a man to third base in the second, third, and sixth, but did not score until the eighth, when a wild pitch brought home their lone run.  They still had men on second and third with one out, but the last five Rays were retired.
Of note:  Brian Olson was 0-for-3 with a walk.

DSL YANKEES1 2, DSL TWINS 1 AT YANKEES1

Batting stars:  Jorge Parra was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 2-for-4 with a double.  Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-4 with a walk.
Pitching star:  Jadison Jimenez struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Ricardo Ferreira was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Leobaldo Cabrera was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jairo Garcia pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
The game:  Parra hit a one-out double and later scored on an error to give the Twins a 1-0 lead in the fourth.  It looked like it might stand up, but the Yankees1 tied it in the eighth on Ferreira's RBI single and won it in the ninth on Cabrera's run-scoring single.
Of note:  Antonio Tovar was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Edgar Herrera was 1-for-4.  Francisco Hernandez was 1-for-2.

Pitcher:  Tyler Duffey made two starts, pitching 14.1 innings.  He gave up no earned runs on nine hits and two walks with ten strikeouts.  For the season, he is 3-4, 2.82, 1.14 WHIP with 7 walks and 38 strikeouts in 44.2 innings (7 starts).

CHATTANOOGA

Batter:  Miguel Sano was 10-for-17 with five doubles, two home runs, and two walks.  For the season he is hitting .273/.370/.546 in 238 at-bats.

Games of June 28

Tyler Duffey and Wilkin Ramirez lead the Red Wings to a split.  The Lookouts hold on for a victory.  The Miracle has a ten-game winning streak snapped.  No offense for the Kernels.  Cody Stashak and Onesimo Hernandez lead the E-Twins to a split.

ROCHESTER 1, CHARLOTTE 0 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Eric Fryer was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  James Beresford was 2-for-3.  Jose Martinez was 1-for-2 with a double.
Pitching star:  Tyler Duffey pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout, giving up four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Matt Davidson was 2-for-2 with a walk.  Miguel Chalas pitched four innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Dan Jennings pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits.
The game:  The Red Wings scored the game's only run in the third on an error and a pair of two-out singles.  The Knights' biggest threat came in the sixth, when Chris Curley led off with a double.  He reached third with two out but did not score.
Of note:  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-3.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-3.

ROCHESTER 5, CHARLOTTE 4 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2--11 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Wilkin Ramirez was 3-for-5 with two home runs (his second and third) and a double, driving in five.  Oswaldo Arcia was 3-for-5 with two runs.
Pitching stars:  Greg Peavey pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  A. J. Achter struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.
Opposition stars:  Jason Coats was 2-for-5 with a home run, his seventh.  Micah Johnson was 3-for-6 with an RBI.  Chris Marrero was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
The game:  The Knight scored single runs in the second and third, but Ramirez hit a three-run homer in the fourth to put the Red Wings up 3-2.  The lead held until the seventh, when Marrero delivered an RBI single to tie it 3-3.  Johnson's RBI single in the eleventh put the Knights ahead 4-3, but they left the bases loaded.  It would cost them, as Ramirez hit a two-run walkoff homer with one out in the bottom of the eleventh.
Of note:  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-4 with a double.  James Beresford was 1-for-5.  Eric Fryer was 0-for-5.

CHATTANOOGA 9, MONTGOMERY 8 IN MONTGOMERY

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer (his fifteenth) and a double, scoring three times.  Max Kepler was 3-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring three times and driving in three.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-4 with a home run (his twenty-second), a double, and a walk, driving in three.
Pitching star:  Jose Berrios pitched seven innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk with six strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Joey Rickard was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his second) and a walk, scoring twice.  Patrick Leonard was 1-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and two RBIs.  Tyler Goeddel was 1-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs.
The game:  Walker II hit a two-run homer in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie and put the Lookouts ahead 3-1.  Kepler doubled in two in the seventh to give the Lookouts a seemingly safe 5-1 lead.  In the eighth, however, Leonard hit a home run and Rickard followed with a two-run shot that cut the lead to 5-4.  In the ninth, Sano hit a three-run homer and Walker II added an RBI double to give the Lookouts an again seemingly safe lead at 9-4.  The Biscuits again rallied in the bottom of the ninth, getting four walks and a two-out three-run triple by Leonard that made the score 9-8 before a line drive to center ended the game.
Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.

DUNEDIN 7, FORT MYERS 2 IN DUNEDIN

Batting stars:  Jason Kanzler was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Logan Wade was 1-for-2 with two walks.
Pitching stars:  None.
Opposition stars:  Rowdy Tellez was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third), scoring twice and driving in four.  Christian Lopes was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs.  Luis Santos struck out eight in 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
The game:  Tellez' two-run double keyed a three-run third that put the Blue Jays ahead 3-0.  It was 4-0 after four, but the Miracle got single runs in the fifth and sixth to get back into the game at 4-2.  The Blue Jays would not be denied, though, as they scored single runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to take control of the game.
Of note:  Zach Granite was 0-for-5.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-5.  Marcus Knecht was 0-for-4.  Mat Batts struck out five in 3.2 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk.

QUAD CITIES 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting star:  Alex Real was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.
Pitching star:  Michael Theofanopoulos pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Jason Martin was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Ramon Laureano was 2-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Frances Martes pitched four shutout innings, allowing one hit.
The game:  No big innings, but the River Bandits scored single runs in the second, third, fourth, and fifth to go up 4-1.  A two-run ninth put the game out of reach.
Of note:  Tanner English was 1-for-4.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4.  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4.  Max Murphy was 0-for-3.  Zach Tillery struck out five in four innings, giving up three runs on two hits.

PULASKI 6, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Amaurys Minier was 1-for-3 with a home run.  Manuel Guzman was 2-for-4 with a run.
Pitching star:  Josh Guyer struck out two in a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Hoy Jun Park was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Austin Afenir was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Adonis Rosa pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
The game:  Afenir had a two-run double in the first and Carlos Vidal had an RBI double in a two-run second as the Yankees led 4-2 after two.  The Twins loaded the bases with none out in the third but did not score.  The Yankees added single runs in the fifth and sixth to take control of the game.
Of note:  Kamran Young was 1-for-3.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-3.  Tyler Kuresa was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Brandon Easton pitched 2.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

ELIZABETHTON 4, PULASKI 0 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Games of June 27

Adam Brett Walker II hits his twenty-first.  A couple of rainouts.  Only one win.

CHARLOTTE AT ROCHESTER

MONTGOMERY 7, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his twenty-first.  Stephen Wickens was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching stars:  None.
Opposition stars:  Cameron Seitzer was 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk, driving in four.  Joey Rickard was 2-for-2 with three walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Leonardo Reginatto was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.
The game:  Seitzer singled in a run in the first and hit a two-run homer in the third to give the Biscuits a 3-0 lead.  The Lookouts got a run in the fourth and Walker II hit a two-run homer in the sixth to tie it 3-3.  In the seventh, a pair of errors led to three runs and put the Biscuits in control of the game.
Of note:  Levi Michael was 0-for-4.  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-4.  Max Kepler was 0-for-4.  Brett Lee pitched five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout.

FORT MYERS 2, DUNEDIN 1 IN DUNEDIN

Batting stars:  Marcus Knecht was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-4 with a double.
Pitching stars:  Ryan Eades pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.  D. J. Johnson struck out two in a perfect inning.  Corey Williams pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Rowdy Tellez was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  L. B. Dantzler was 2-for-2 with two walks.  Jeff Hoffman struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
The game:  All the runs were scored in the sixth.  In the top of the inning, a walk and a fielder's choice put two men on and Knecht doubled them both home.  In the bottom of the inning, Tellez homered.  In the ninth, a single, a bunt, and a wild pitch put the tying run on third with two out, but a strikeout ended the game.
Of note:  Zach Granite was 0-for-4 with a run.  Alex Swim was 0-for-4.

QUAD CITIES 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Tanner English was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.
Pitching star:  Jared Wilson struck out four in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and no walks.
Opposition stars:  Ryan Bottger was 2-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Jacob Nottingham was 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.  Jason Martin was 2-for-5 with a home run, his fourth.
The game:  The River Bandits scored single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to go up 3-0.  In the sixth, Corcino had a two-run double to tie it and scored on an Alex Real single to put the Kernels up 4-3.  The lead held until the ninth, when a walk and a pair of two-out singles tied the score.  In the tenth, two walks, an RBI single by Bobby Boyd and a run-scoring double by Alex Bregman put the River Bandits back in the lead, this time to stay.

Pitching stars:  Williams Ramirez struck out seven in four shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Dallas Gallant struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Andrew Vasquez struck out two in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars:  Tyler Hill was 2-for-4 with a run.  Yoan Aybar was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Javier Rodriguez pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk with one strikeout.
The game:  Each team scored once in the fifth to make it 1-1.  In the seventh, two singles, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly plated two for the Red Sox.  Diaz doubled in a run in the eighth to make it 3-2.  The Twins had men on second and third with one out, but a pair of strikeouts ended the inning and the Twins did not threaten in the ninth.
