Two complete games! A pair of walkoff wild pitches! Cedar Rapids wins its ninth straight!

SYRACUSE 1, ROCHESTER 0 IN SYRACUSE

Batting star: Doug Bernier was 2-for-3 with a double.
Pitching star: Pedro Hernandez pitched a complete game, giving up one run on five hits and two walks in eight innings.
Opposition stars: Tanner Roark pitched six innings, allowing two hits and no walks. Will Rhymes was 2-for-4 and scored once.
Key inning: The first. For the Chiefs, Rhymes led off with a single, Danny Espinosa doubled to put runners on second and third, and Chris Rahl hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the only run of the game.
Prospect watch: Aaron Hicks was 0-for-4. Chris Colabello was 0-for-4.

NEW BRITAIN 5, READING 0 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars: Nate Hanson was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one. Josmil Pinto was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Kyle Knudson was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Pat Dean pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out five.
Opposition stars: Jesse Biddle pitched six innings, giving up two runs on nine hits and two walks. Anthony Hewitt was 2-for-4.
Key inning: The seventh. The Rock Cats led 2-0. An error and a walk put runners on first and third with one out. Hanson singled in one and Pinto doubled in two to make the score 5-0.
Prospect watch: Miguel Sano was 1-for-4 with a double.

FORT MYERS 12, ST. LUCIE 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars: Jhon Goncalves was 4-for-4 with three doubles and a walk, scoring twice and driving in five. Stephen Wickens was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored twice. Levi Michael was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Matt Tomshaw pitched eight innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks. Nelvin Fuentes struck out all three batters he faced.
Opposition star: Matt den Decker was 3-for-4 and scored once.
Key inning: The third. Trailing 2-0, the Miracle struck for four. Singles by Levi Michael, Byron Buxton, and Aderlin Mejia loaded the bases with one out. Goncalves unloaded them with a double, stole third, and scored on a ground out.
Prospect watch: Buxton was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Mejia was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Kennys Vargas was 1-for-5 with an RBI.

CEDAR RAPIDS 2, PEORIA 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars: Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice and driving in two. Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a walk, a double, and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Brett Lee struck out nine in eight innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits and no walks. Caleb Brewer struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up three hits.
Opposition stars: Hector Hernandez pitched eight innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out six. Patrick Wisdom was 3-for-4.
Key inning: The tenth. The score was tied at one. Walker II singled, stole second, went to third on a bunt, and scored on a wild pitch.
Prospect watch: Dalton Hicks was 0-for-5.

KINGSPORT 5, ELIZABETHTON 4 IN KINGSPORT

Batting star: Bryan Haar was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Hein Robb struck out four in five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk. Carson Goldsmith struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars: Carlos Gomez pitched 6.2 shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk. Jonathan Leroux was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Pedro Perez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Key inning: The ninth. The Mets trailed 4-2. Dallas Gallant was pitching. With one out, two singles and a walk loaded the bases. A pop out gave the Twins hope, but Leroux singled in two runs to tie the game. Luis Nunez relieved and promptly uncorked a wild pitch to end the game.
Prospect watch: Rory Rhodes was 0-for-4. Zach Granite was 0-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

GCL RED SOX 4, GCL TWINS 3 AT RED SOX

Batting stars: Jorge Fernandez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Zach Larson was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Lance Ray was 2-for-4 and scored once.
Pitching star: Kyle Davies struck out seven in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars: Willie Ethington pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk. Nathan Minnich was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jose Colorado was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once.
Key inning: The ninth. The score was tied at three. The Twins got a leadoff double from Rick Schwarz, but did not score. For the Red Sox, Colorado singled, took second on a balk, went to third on a bunt, and scored the winning run on an error.
Prospect watch: Amaurys Minier was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Adonis Pacheco was 0-for-4.

Games of June 28


Big days by Chris Colabello and Miguel Sano aren't enough.  Elizabethton wins its seventh straight.  Nick Blackburn conquers the Gulf Coast League.

INDIANAPOLIS 4, ROCHESTER 2 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Batting star:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with two home runs, his nineteenth and twentieth.
Pitching star:  Aaron Thompson pitched two perfect innings.
Opposition stars:  Andrew Lambo was 2-for-2 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice.  Brett Carroll was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Jose Tabata was 2-for-3 with a double.
Key inning:  The fourth.  The score was tied at one.  In the top of the inning, Colabello led off with his second homer of the game to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, Lambo drew a one-out walk, followed by back-to-back homers by Jared Goedert and Carroll to put the Indians in front 4-2.
Prospect watch:  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-4.

READING 6, NEW BRITAIN 5 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his fifth and sixth), driving in five.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Daniel Turpen struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars:  Seth Rosin pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk.  Tyson Gilles was 4-for-5 with two home runs.  Edgar Duran was 3-for-3 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in three.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The Phillies led 5-2.  In the top of the inning, they added an insurance run on two singles and a sacrifice fly.  They needed it, because in the bottom of the inning, Nate Hanson hit a one-out single, Pinto walked, and Sano hit a three-run homer, his second homer of the game, to make it 6-5.  The next two batters went out to end the game.
Prospect watch:  Eddie Rosario was 0-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Trevor May struck out six in five innings, but gave up four runs on five hits and a walk.

FORT MYERS AT JUPITER

The game was suspended in the bottom of the third inning.  There was no score, but the Hammerheads had runners on first and second with one out.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, BURLINGTON 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Travis Harrison was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his thirteenth), scoring twice and driving in four.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his twelfth.  J. D. Williams was 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Pitching stars:  Josue Montanez struck out four in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Steven Gruver struck out two in a perfect inning.  Madison Boer pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up two hits.
Opposition star:  Kevin Moesquit was 2-for-4.
Key inning:  The first.  it was a scoreless tie.  Williams led off with a single, followed by a Niko Goodrum double and a two-run double by Harrison.  With one out, Walker II hit a two-run homer to give the Kernels an early 4-0 lead.
Prospect watch:  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with a double.  Max Kepler was 0-for-3 with a walk.

ELIZABETHTON 8, PRINCETON 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with a home run, his first, and scored twice.  Javier Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Yorman Landa struck out seven in five innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Kuo Hua Lo struck out two in two innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Brandon Peterson struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition star:  Jacob Faria struck out six in five shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk.
Key inning:  The eighth.  Leading 1-0, the Twins scored seven times.  Two singles and a balk scored the first run.  Zach Granite singled in the second.  A walk and a wild pitch put runners on second and third, and Rory Rhodes hit a two-run double.  Mitch Garver singled, and with two out Jake Proctor and Pimentel hit back-to-back doubles to bring in three more runs.
Prospect watch:  Rhodes was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Granite was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

GCL TWINS 5, GCL RED SOX 2 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Jorge Fernandez was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Adonis Pacheco was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double, scoring twice.  Jason Kanzler was 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one.
Pitching stars:  Nick Blackburn struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Miguel Gonzalez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Aneudis Peralta was 2-for-4 with a double.  Deiner Lopez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  Pacheco led off with a double, was bunted to third, and scored on a Kanzler single.  Kanzler then stole second and scored on a single by Engelb Vielma to give the Twins an early 2-0 lead.
Prospect watch:  Vielma was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-3.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL ORIOLES1 0 AT ORIOLES1

Batting stars:  Francis Mateo was 3-for-5 with a home run (his first) and three RBIs.  Eddy Concepcion was 2-for-3 with two walks and a triple, driving in two.  Joel Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored twice.
Pitching stars:  Elias Villasana pitched four innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Eduardo Del Rosario struck out four in three innings, giving up no hits and two walks.  Ezequiel Zarzuela pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Alexander Mercedes was 2-for-3.
Key inning:  The second.  The Twins led 1-0.  With one out, a walk and two singles loaded the bases.  A two-out walk forced in a run and Mateo singled in two more to give the Twins a 4-0 advantage.

Jeff Clement leads the Red Wings to victory.  Christian Powell has a fine game for Cedar Rapids.  Elizabethton wins its sixth straight.

ROCHESTER 8, INDIANAPOLIS 4 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Batting stars:  Jeff Clement was 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer (his thirteenth), scoring twice.  Antoan Richardson was 2-for-5 and scored once.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching star:  Luis Perdomo struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
Opposition stars:  Andrew Lambo was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in two.  Ivan De Jesus was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jared Goedert was 2-for-4 and scored once.
Key inning:  The fifth.  The score was tied at one.  With one out in the top of the inning, Fryer doubled and went to third on a single by Richardson, who stole second.  Aaron Hicks was intentionally walked to load the bases.  Chris Colabello delivered a two-run single and Clement hit a three-run homer to put the Red Wings ahead 6-1.  The Indians came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning on three singles and a two-run double by Lambo, but got no closer the rest of the game.
Prospect watch:  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Vance Worley struck out six in six innings but gave up four runs on ten hits and a walk.

READING 9, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Jordan Parraz was 2-for-4 with a double.  Angel Morales was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double.
Pitching stars:  Cole Johnson struck out two in a perfect inning.  B. J. Hermsen struck out one in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Austin Wright pitched eight innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks.  Tyson Gilles was 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored three times.  Maikel Franco was 3-for-5 with a triple, scoring three times and driving in one.
Key inning:  The fourth.  The Phillies led 3-1.  Albert Cartwright hit a one-out homer, followed by a Gilles double.  With two out, Franco hit an RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch to make the score 6-1.  The runs came off starter Virgil Vasquez, who gave up seven runs (three earned) on ten hits and a walk in six innings while striking out five.
Prospect watch:  Miguel Sano was 1-for-4 with his fourth home run.  Eddie Rosario was 0-for-4.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4.

JUPITER 11, FORT MYERS 2 IN JUPITER

Batting stars:  Jhon Goncalves was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Candido Pimentel was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Opposition stars:  Jose Urenz struck out six in six innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits and three walks.  Brent Keys was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.  Austin Barnes was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.
Key inning:  The fourth.  Jupiter led 2-1.  A single, an error, and a walk filled the bases with Hammerheads with one out.  Josh Adams singled in one and Ryan Goetz singled in two.  An error moved runners to second and third and Keys hit another two-run single to give Jupiter a 7-1 lead.
Prospect watch:  Byron Buxton was 0-for-4 with a walk.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-4.  Taylor Rogers had a rare bad game, giving up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks in four innings.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, BURLINGTON 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Jorge Polanco was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third), scoring twice and driving in four.  J. D. Williams was 3-for-5 with two triples and scored three times.  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-1 with four walks and scored three times.
Pitching stars:  Christian Powell pitched six innings, giving up only one hit but five walks while striking out four.  Tyler Jones struck out two in three perfect innings.
Opposition stars:  Chevy Clarke was 1-for-2 with a walk.  He had the only Bees hit of the game.
Key inning:  The second.  The Kernels led 1-0.  A single and a walk put two on with two out and Polanco hit a three-run homer to give Cedar Rapids a 4-0 lead.

ELIZABETHTON 6, PRINCETON 3 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Javier Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Zach Granite was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  Dereck Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Andrew Ferreira struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Luis Nunez struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Ethan Mildren gave up one hit in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars:  Bralin Jackson was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Coty Blanchard was 1-for-3 with two walks and a double, scoring once.
Key inning:  The fifth.  The score was tied at three.  With two out and none on, Bryan Haar hit a home run to give the Twins the lead.  Elizabethton also scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to take control of the game.

GCL ORIOLES 7, GCL TWINS 4 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Zach Larson was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and scored twice.  Alex Swim was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Lewis Thorpe struck out eight in four shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Jose Abreu struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Sam Gibbons pitched two shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk while striking out two.
Opposition stars:  Jesus Martinez was 2-for-4 with a grand slam.  Oswill Lartiguez was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 3-0, the Orioles scored all seven of their runs.  A single, an error, and a walk loaded the bases with none out.  Justin Viele and Lartiguez each hit an RBI single to make it 3-2.  With one out, a hit batsman forced in a run to tie it and Martinez hit a grand slam to give the Orioles the lead.  The damage came off Josh Guyer, who was charged with all seven runs (six earned) on four hits and a walk in a third of an inning.
Prospect watch:  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-4.  Lance Ray was 1-for-4.  Amaurys Minier was 1-for-4.

DSL TWINS 11, DSL PADRES 1 AT PADRES

Batting stars:  Jhonathan Alvarez was 2-for-3 with two walks and a home run (his first), scoring three times and driving in two.  Francis Mateo was 2-for-6 with a double and scored once.  Joel Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching stars:  Onesimo Hernandez struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Wilfredy Liranzo retired all six batters he faced, three by strikeout.  Carlos Aponte pitched three innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Luis Barahona was 3-for-4.  Jhonatan Pena was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The Twins led 3-1.  The Twins started the inning with four walks, plating one and leaving the bases loaded.  With one out, another walk brought in a second run.  A sacrifice fly then scored a third, giving the Twins three runs without a hit to take a 6-1 lead.
Prospect watch:  Dubal Baez was 0-for-4.

Where They Stand: Through Games of June 26


Rochester is 40-41, fourth in the International League North, 10.5 games behind Pawtucket.  The Red Wings won their most recent game and are 5-5 in their last ten games.

New Britain is 38-40, tied for fourth in the Eastern League Eastern, 10.5 games behind Binghamton.  The Rock Cats have won two consecutive games and are 6-4 in their last ten games.

Fort Myers is 3-4 in the second half, tied for fourth in the Florida State League South, one game behind Bradenton, Charlotte, and St. Lucie.  For the season, the Miracle is 48-26.  Fort Myers has lost three consecutive games and is 5-5 in its last ten games.

Cedar Rapids is 6-0 in the second half, first in the Midwest League Western, one game ahead of Beloit, Clinton, and Quad Cities.  For the season, the Kernels are 46-28.  Cedar Rapids has won six consecutive games and is 6-4 in its last ten games.

Elizabethton is 6-1, tied for first with Johnson City in the Appalachian League West.  The Twins have won five consecutive games.

The GCL Twins are 3-2, first in the Gulf Coast League South, a half game ahead of the Rays and the Red Sox.  The Twins have won two consecutive games.

The DSL Twins are 10-10, fifth in the Boca Chica Baseball City, three games behind the White Sox.  The Twins have lost two consecutive games.

ROCHESTER 9, INDIANAPOLIS 7 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Batting stars:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eighteenth, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jeff Clement was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Pitching stars:  Blake Martin struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Shairon Martis gave up one hit in 1.2 scoreless innings.
Opposition stars:  Josh Harrison was 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple, scoring three times and driving in two.  Andrew Lambo was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.  Alex Presley was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once.
Key inning:  The eighth.  The Indians had scored two in the seventh to cut the Red Wings lead to 7-6.  In the eighth, a pair of walks and a bunt single loaded the bases with none out.  Beresford then delivered a two-run single for a couple of needed insurance runs.  Indianapolis scored one in the bottom of the eighth but did not get closer.
Prospect watch:  Aaron Hicks went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI on a rehab assignment.  Cole DeVries pitched to contact, lasting five innings and giving up eight hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

NEW BRITAIN 9, ALTOONA 2 IN ALTOONA (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting stars:  Curt Smith was 3-for-4 with a home run (his fourth), scoring three times and driving in four.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his third), scoring twice.
Pitching stars:  Starter Matthew Summers had pitched two shutout innings before the game was suspended, giving up one hit.  Dakota Watts pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Kernels led 2-1.  Singles by J. D. Williams and Michael Quesada were followed by a sacrifice bunt, putting runners on second and third.  With two out, Jorge Polanco and Hicks hit back-to-back doubles to give Cedar Rapids a 5-1 advantage.

Pitching stars;  Leonel Zazueta pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits.  Markus Solbach gave up three hits in two shutout innings.  Miguel Gonzalez struck out one in a shutout inning, giving up one hit and one walk.
Opposition stars:  Jesus Martinez was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Andres Aguilar was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Dioni Dominguez retired all six batters he faced, striking out three.
Key inning:  The eighth.  The Orioles trailed 5-1.  Bruce Pugh came in to start the inning.  The Orioles led off the inning with a walk and a single.  With one out, a walk and an error made it 5-2 and put runners on first and third.  Aguilar singled to make it 5-3.  With two out, Justin Viele singled to make it 5-4 with runners on first and third.  A stolen base made it second and third.  Pugh rallied to strike out Oswill Lartiguez to end the inning.

DSL REDS 9, DSL TWINS 5 AT REDS

Batting stars:  Joel Ramirez was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring three times.   Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  Manuel Guzman was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Williams Ramirez started and struck out five in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.  Sebastian Perez pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.
Opposition stars:  Jacob Constante started and pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk.  Henderson Peralta was 3-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Raynar Guerrero was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring three times and driving in one.
Key inning:  The fifth.  The Reds led 3-1.  In the top of the inning, Ramirez singled, stole second, and scored on a pickoff error to make the score 3-2.  In the bottom of the inning, a walk and a single put two men on, and a fielder's choice on which no one was retired gave the Reds and insurance run.  Peralta singled in a run to make it 5-2.  An error made it 6-2, a ground out made it 7-2, and another error made it 8-2.  The Reds scored five runs on two singles, two walks, and two errors.
Prospect watch:  Dubal Baez was 0-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

Games of June 25


A good day of rehab for Aaron Hicks wasn't enough.  Max Kepler wins it for Cedar Rapids.  We're caught up now.

INDIANAPOLIS 5, ROCHESTER 3 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Batting stars:  Aaron Hicks, on the first day of a rehab assignment, was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Jeff Clement was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his twelfth.
Pitching star:  Cody Eppley pitched a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Kris Johnson pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks.  Lucas May was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Andrew Lambo was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The Indians led 3-0.  With one out, May singled and Chase D'Arnaud hit a two-run homer to put the game out of reach.
Prospect watch:  Logan Darnell, making his AAA debut, pitched 2.2 innings before leaving with a blister.  He gave up one run on two hits and three walks while striking out two.

NEW BRITAIN AT ALTOONA

The game was suspended in the second inning with New Britain leading 3-0 on a three-run homer by Curt Smith.

PALM BEACH 5, FORT MYERS 4 IN PALM BEACH

Batting stars:  Mike Kvasnicka was 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his third.  Jhon Goncalves was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Ryan O'Rourke pitched three shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Jose Gonzalez struck out one in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Anthony Garcia was 3-for-4 with a double and a homer.  David Popkins was 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored once.  Travis Miller struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The Miracle trailed 5-4.  Kvasnicka led off with a single and was replaced by Candido Pimentel.  A bunt moved the tying run to second and a passed ball put him on third with one out.  Jonathan Murphy and Byron Buxton each grounded out to end the game.
Prospect watch:  Buxton, in his high-A debut, was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-3 with an RBI.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, BURLINGTON 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Max Kepler was 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer (his first), scoring twice.  J. D. Williams was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored once.
Pitching star:  Kaleb Merck retired all seven batters he faced, striking out three of them.
Opposition stars:  Brandon Love pitched five shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit and one walk.  Andrew Ray was 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run, driving in three.
Key inning:  The seventh.  The Kernels trailed 4-0.  Kepler led off with a double, but had only advanced to third with two out.  Michael Quesada had an RBI single, followed by two walks that loaded the bases.  Jorge Polanco unloaded them with a three-run triple to tie the score.  Cedar Rapids got two more in the eighth on a Kepler homer to win the game.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Twins led 3-2.  A walk, a single, and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with one out.  Romy Jimenez singled in one run, an error produced another, and a Javier Pimentel single brought in a third to give Elizabethton a 6-2 lead.

GCL TWINS 6, GCL RAYS 5 AT GCL TWINS

Batting stars:  Joel Polanco was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Will Hurt was 2-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Chad Christensen was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Key inning:  The eighth.  With the score tied at four, Jorge Fernandez hit a home run to give the Twins the lead.  Polanco singled, was bunted to second, went to third on a Jonatan Hinojosa single, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adonis Pacheco.

DSL WHITE SOX 4, TWINS 1 AT TWINS

Batting star:  Carlos Martinez was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Alexis Tapia pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Robener Cabrera pitched a scoreless inning, giving up only a hit batsman.
Opposition stars:  Jhoan Quijada pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks.  Jaider Rocha struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing no hits and three walks.  Roger Ramos was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Key inning:  The first.  Johan Cruz singled, went to second on a ground out, and scored on a Robert Del Rosario single.  The White Sox scored single runs in each of the first four innings.

A better, but not particularly good, outing by Liam Hendriks.  A good game for Eddie Rosario.  We're getting closer to being caught up.

Batting stars:  James Beresford was 2-for-3.  Jeff Clement was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.
Pitching star:  Shairon Martis pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Daniel Corcino pitched 7.1 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks.  Nevin Ashley was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.  Jason Donald was 2-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.
Key inning:  The fourth.  Leading 3-2, the Bats got an insurance run when Josh Fellhauer singled, took second on a passed ball, went to third on a fly out, and scored on a single by Donald.  Louisville scored single runs in each of the first four innings.
Prospect watch:  Liam Hendriks pitched six innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on ten hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

Key inning:  The second.  The Rock Cats trailed 1-0.  Josmil Pinto led off with a single.  Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a one-out double to put runners on second and third.  A ground out tied the score, and a pair of walks loaded the bases.  Danny Santana singled to put New Britain ahead, followed by a three-run triple by Rosario, who scored on a Nate Hanson double.  The Rock Cats tallied six times in the inning, which was all the runs they got and all the runs they needed.

ALTOONA 2, NEW BRITAIN 0 IN ALTOONA (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-2.  Those were the only two Rock Cats hits of the game.
Pitching stars:  Starter B. J. Hermsen pitched three innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk.  Cole Johnson struck out one in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Ethan Hollingsworth pitched six innings, allowing a hit and a walk.  Kelson Brown was 2-for-3 and scored once.  Gift Ngoepe was 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run, his third.
Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  The Curve scored a gift run as Gift Ngoepe homered to give Altoona a 1-0 lead.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Cardinals trailed 2-1.  A pair of singles put runners on first and third with one out and a force out tied the score.  Rodriguez then delivered an RBI double to give Palm Beach the lead.

Chris Colabello homers again.  Lots of offense for the Kernels.  Yes, these games are a few days old, but I like to be complete.

ROCHESTER 8, LOUISVILLE 5 IN LOUISVILLE

Batting stars:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer (his seventeenth), scoring twice.  Drew Butera was 2-for-4 and scored once.
Pitching stars:  Andrew Albers struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings.
Opposition stars:  Denis Phipps was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Billy Hamilton was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.
