Venezuelan League: Games of December 22

ANZOATEGUI 3, MARGARITA 1 IN MARGARITA (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)


Game summary: Margarita scored in the sixth to tie the score at one, only to see Margarita put together a two-run rally with two out and none on in the seventh to win the game.
Anzoategui: Paolo Espino (Cleveland) struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks. Gorkys Hernandez (Miami) was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored twice.
Margarita: Carlos Monasterios (Detroit) allowed one run on eight hits and no walks in five innings. Max Ramirez (Kansas City) was 2-for-3 with two doubles.

ANZOATEGUI 3, MARGARITA 0 IN ANZOATEGUI (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Twins: Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 1-for-2 with a home run.
Game summary: Anzoategui scored single runs in the second, fifth, and sixth.
Margarita: Manny Pina (Kansas City) was 2-for-2.
Anzoategui: Alex Herrera pitched six innings, allowing four hits and a walk. Gorkys Hernandez (Miami) was 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored once.

LARA 9, LA GUAIRA 1 IN LA GUAIRA

Twins: Ray Olmedo (La Guaira) was 1-for-4.
Game summary: La Guaira scored its lone run in the first. It held up until the fifth, when Lara tied the score. Lara then scored four in the sixth, two in the seventh, and two in the eighth.
Lara: Hernan Iribarren was 4-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one. Luis Valbuena (Cubs)was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.
La Guaira: Gregor Blanco was 4-for-5 and scored once. Salvador Perez (Kansas City) was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

ZULIA 8, ARAGUA 5 IN ZULIA

Twins: Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, his tenth. Dakota Watts (Aragua) gave up two hits and no walks in 1.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout.
Game summary: Zulia scored six in the third and led 8-0 after four. Aragua scored all five runs in the sixth.
Aragua: Jorge Cortes was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, driving in one. Yorman Bazardo worked 2.2 shutout innings, giving up three hits.
Zulia: Evan Gattis (Atlanta) was 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 3-for-5 and scored once.
