Venezuelan League: Games of December 29

CARACAS 2, ZULIA 1 IN CARACAS


Twins: Darin Mastroianni (Zulia) was 0-for-2 with two walks.
Game summary: Caracas scored both of its runs in the second. Zulia got its only run in the fourth.
Zulia: Cesar Valdez struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.
Caracas: Armando Galarraga allowed one run on seven hits and two walks in five innings. Luis Rodriguez (Angels) was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.

MAGALLANES 5, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN MAGALLANES

Twins: Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 0-for-3.
Game summary: Magallanes led 5-0 after six. Anzoategui scored all three of its runs in the ninth.
Anzoategui: Nathan Baker (Pittsburgh) struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk. Jose Castillo was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.
Magallanes: Sergio Perez worked seven shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks. Eliezer Alfonzo was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, scoring twice.

ARAGUA 6, LA GUAIRA 5 IN ARAGUA

Twins: Ray Olmedo (La Guaira) was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once. Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 0-for-3 with a walk.
Game summary: La Guaira built a 5-0 lead after 6 ½, but Aragua scored two in the seventh and four in the eighth. The go-ahead run scored on a sacrifice double play.
La Guaira: Dan Serafini struck out four in five shutout innings, giving up seven hits and three walks. Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.
Aragua: Hector Gimenez was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Luis Hernandez (Cleveland) was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in two.

LARA 8, MARGARITA 5 IN LARA

Game summary: Lara scored six in the fourth to take the lead. It was 8-1 before Margarita scored four in the ninth.
Margarita: Jonathan Herrera (Colorado) was 2-for-5 and scored twice. Javier Brito was 1-for-3 with a triple and two walks, scoring once and driving in one.
Lara: Anderson De La Rosa (Milwaukee) was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer. Joe Thurston was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
