Games of July 22

A Field day for the Red Wings, and Jose Berrios continues to dominate the International League.  Jaylin Davis continues to hit for Cedar Rapids.  When you watch the E-Twins, you know you'll see some runs.

ROCHESTER 3, SYRACUSE 1 IN ROCHESTER

Tommy Field hit a two-run homer in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and give the Red Wings the win.  Jose Berrios had another outstanding game, striking out nine in eight innings and giving up one run on three hits and a walk.  Over his last seven starts his ERA is 1.27 with 52 strikeouts and 13 walks in 49.2 innings.  It's just too bad the Twins are in a pennant race and all their starters are doing so well; otherwise, maybe they could take a chance on moving him up.  Field was the only Red Wings with two hits, going 2-for-3.  The home run was his eighth.  Byung Ho Park was 1-for-3 with a home run, his fourth.  Daniel Palka was 1-for-2 with a walk and is batting .327.

JACKSON 3, CHATTANOOGA 2 IN JACKSON

The Generals scored all three of their runs in the third.  The Lookouts got two in the fourth but did nothing on offense after that.  Omar Bencomo pitched well other than in the third, going five innings and giving up three runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Tyler Jay, Zack Jones, and Trevor Hildenberger each pitched a scoreless inning.  Jones now has an ERA of 0.75 and Hildenberger is at 0.76.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 and is batting .304.  Mitch Garver was also 2-for-4.

CLEARWATER 5, FORT MYERS 0 IN CLEARWATER (6 INNINGS--RAIN)

The Threshers scored one in the second and two in the third.  Sam Clay threw a six-inning complete game, allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits and no walks with one strikeout.  LaMonte Wade had two of the three Miracle hits, going 2-for-3 with a double to make his average .369.  Reynaldo Rodriguez, on a rehab assignment, was 1-for-1 with two walks.  It was the fifth straight loss for Fort Myers.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, BOWLING GREEN 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Jaylin Davis hit a three-run homer in a five-run fifth that put the Kernels up 7-0.  Davis was 2-for-4 and had a double in addition to the home run, which was his fourth.  Manuel Guzman was 3-for-4 with a double.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk and is batting .336.  He's only nineteen, but it seems like it's time to move him up to high-A.  Sam Gibbons pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

ELIZABETHTON 12, JOHNSON CITY 8 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins made it twenty-nine runs in two games.  They were behind 8-7 after five, but Lewin Diaz hit a grand slam in the sixth that put them ahead to stay.  Alex Schick struck out six in 3.2 innings, but he surrendered eight runs on ten hits and a walk.  Hector Lujan pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.  The Twins' first four batters each had three hits.  Brandon Lopez was 3-for-4 with a triple and is batting .382.  Travis Blankenhorn was 3-for-5 and is batting .304.  Alex Kirilloff was 3-for-5 with a home run (his third) and is batting .360.  Lewin Diaz was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk in addition to the grand slam, which was his fifth homer of the season.  He is batting .315.  The Twins are second in the league in scoring runs but are last in ERA.

GCL TWINS 5, GCL RED SOX 5 AT RED SOX (SUSPENDED GAME)

This game is scheduled to be completed today.  The Red Sox are batting in the ninth inning with two out and none on.

DSL TWINS 9, DSL DODGERS1 0 AT TWINS

Already leading 4-0, the Twins scored four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Melvi Acosta pitched seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  In eight starts, his ERA is 1.47 and his WHIP is 0.88 with 37 strikeouts and 7 walks in 43 innings.  Edgar Herrera was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .330.  Humberto Maldonado was also 2-for-4 with a double.  Victor Tademo was 1-for-4 with a home run and is batting .320.  Jorge Parra was 0-for-3 and is batting .307.

Games of July 21

Byung Ho Park and Adam Brett Walker II go deep for the Red Wings.  Not much offense for the other full-season clubs.  The E-Twins tried to make up for that.

ROCHESTER 6, SYRACUSE 1 IN ROCHESTER

Byung Ho Park hit a three-run homer (his third) in a four-run first that led the Red Wings to a win.  Andrew Albers threw 108 pitches in a complete game, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Adam Brett Walker II was 3-for-4 with a home run, his nineteenth.  Daniel Palka was 3-for-4 and is batting .319.

JACKSON 6, CHATTANOOGA 0 IN JACKSON

The Generals scored one in the first and it was all they needed.  The Lookouts had only two hits, both by D. J. Hicks, who was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Zach Granite was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .302.  David Hurlbut pitched six innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and three walks with one strikeout.

CLEARWATER 3, FORT MYERS 2 IN CLEARWATER

Down 3-2 after six, the Miracle scored single runs in the seventh and eighth but had the tying run thrown out at the plate in the eighth and did not get another man on base.  Randy LeBlanc struck out six in six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks.  Reynaldo Rodriguez, on a rehab assignment, was 1-for-4 with a home run.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-4 and is batting .355.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4 and is batting .303.

BOWLING GREEN 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

ELIZABETHTON 17, KINGSPORT 3 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins had three four-run innings, including one in the first, on their way to an easy win.  Everyone in the Twins lineup had at least one hit and seven of them had at least two.  Shane Carrier was 3-for-5 with a home run (his second) and two doubles.  Alex Kirilloff was 3-for-5 with a walk and is batting .346.  Andre Jernigan was 3-for-5 with a double.  Brandon Lopez was 2-for-4 and is batting .353 with an OBP of .507.  Robert Molina was 2-for-5, tripling his number of hits on the season and raising his average to .079.

GCL RAYS 4, GCL TWINS 3 AT TWINS (12 INNINGS)

Having played fifteen innings the day before, the two teams took it easy and only played twelve.  The go-ahead run scored on a leadoff double, an intentional walk, and two accidental walks.  Huascar Ynoa pitched four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Callan Pearce pitched two-thirds of an inning and did not give up a run, so his ERA remains zero through 12.2 innings.  The Twins had only four hits.  Roni Tapia was used as a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1, dropping his average to .037 (1-for-27).

DSL DIAMONDBACKS2 10, DSL TWINS 8 AT TWINS
