Mexican League: Games of October 18


GUASAVE 9, MAZATLAN 5 IN MAZATLAN (GAME 1—7 INNINGS)

Twins:  Chris Colabello was 1-for-4 and drove in a run for Guasave.
Game summary:  Guasave scored five in the fourth to overcome a 3-1 deficit, then scored three in the fifth to break a 6-6 tie.
Guasave:  Zelous Wheeler (Baltimore) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Jose Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.
Mazatlan:  Jon Del Campo was 2-for-4 with a home run, driving in three.  Jaime Trejo was 2-for-4 with a double.

GUASAVE 4, MAZATLAN 1 IN MAZATLAN (GAME 2—7 INNINGS)

Twins:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once while striking out twice for Guasave.  Anthony Slama struck out two in a perfect inning for Mazatlan.
Game summary:  A three-run fourth put the game away for Guasave.
Guasave:  Francisco Cordoba worked five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Freddy Sandoval was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double, driving in one.
Mazatlan:  Jesus Castillo was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Oswaldo Morejon was 2-for-3 with a double.

CULIACAN 4, NAVOJOA 3 IN CULIACAN

Game summary:  Marlon Byrd hit a three-run homer in the seventh to tie the score and Ronnier Mustelier homered in the eighth to win the game.
Navojoa:  Javier Martinez struck out six in five shutout innings.  Matt Esquivel hit a two-run homer.
Culiacan:  Mustelier (Yankees) also hit a double, going 2-for-4.  Andres Meza allowed one run on three hits and a walk in five innings.

LOS MOCHIS 9, HERMOSILLO 5 IN LOS MOCHIS

Game summary:  A seven-run first allowed Los Mochis to cruise to victory.
Hermosillo:  Carlos Gastelum was 2-for-5, scoring once and driving in one.
Los Mochis:  Jermaine Curtis (St. Louis) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Ramon Orantes hit a home run.

MEXICALI 3, OBREGON 2 IN OBREGON

Game summary:  Jorge Guzman hit a two-run homer in the ninth to give Mexicali the win.
Mexicali:  Gil Velazquez (Miami) was 3-for-4.  David Casillas struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings.
Obregon:  Doug Clark was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Rolando Valdez gave up one run in 5.1 innings.
