AFL games of October 22


PEORIA 3, SURPRISE 0 IN PEORIA

Twins:  Michael Tonkin pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Logan Darnell pitched a perfect inning.
Game summary:  Peoria scored single runs in the third, fourth, and seventh.  Seven Peoria pitchers held Surprise to four hits.
Surprise:  Chris McGuiness (Texas) was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Peoria:  Jeudy Valdez (San Diego) was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, driving in two.  Kyle Simon (Philadelphia) struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing two hits.

PHOENIX 5, SCOTTSDALE 1 IN SCOTTSDALE

Game summary:  Phoenix scored two in the first and never looked back.  Scottsdale’s lone run came in the ninth.
Phoenix:  Kyle Jensen (Miami) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jimmy Nelson (Milwaukee) struck out four in two perfect innings.
Scottsdale:  Joe Panik (San Francisco) and Tyler Holt (Cleveland) were each 2-for-4.

SALT RIVER 5, MESA 4 IN SALT RIVER (10 INNINGS)

Game summary:  Andy Wilkins (White Sox) hit a walk-off homer to break a 4-4 tie.
Mesa:  Brian Ward (Baltimore) was 2-for-3 with a walk and drove in two.  Matt Szczur (Cubs) was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Salt River:  Wilkins was 3-for-5.  Chase Anderson (Arizona) struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
