Venezuelan Winter League: Games of November 15


Errors carry Anzoategui.  A career day for Carrera.  An Earl Weaver day for Zulia.

ANZOATEGUI 4, MARGARITA 1 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Anzoategui.
Anzoategui:  Brandon Allen (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Gorkys Hernandez (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  Paolo Espino (Washington) struck out eight in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks.
Margarita:  David Peralta (Arizona) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Forrest Snow (Seattle) pitched four shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
The game:  Two errors led to two runs in the fifth, which was all Anzoategui would need.  Margarita had taken a 1-0 lead in the second.

CARACAS 10, ARAGUA 2 IN CARACAS

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar was 0-for-4 with an RBI for Aragua.  Argenis Diaz was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run for Aragua.
Aragua:  Gustavo Molina (Colorado) was 1-for-2 with a double and a run.  Jose Martinez was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Caracas:  Alex Gonzalez was 3-for-3 with two home runs (his second and third) a double, and a walk, scoring three times and driving in four.  Felix Perez (Cincinnati) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jarrett Grube (Angels) struck out six in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks.
The game:  Aragua scored in the top of the sixth to tie it at two, but Caracas scored one in the sixth, four in the seventh, and three in the eighth.  Ramon Cabrera (Pittsburgh) hit a two-run double in the seventh, the only hit for Caracas in the inning.

MAGALLANES 3, LA GUAIRA 2 IN MAGALLANES

La Guaira:  Miguel Rojas (Dodgers) was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Reynel Pinto pitched 3.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Magallanes:  Ezequiel Carrera (Detroit) was 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a walk.  David Martinez (Texas) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
The game:  Magallanes trailed 2-1 after six, but scored on a double play to tie it 2-2 after seven.  Carrera's RBI single in the eighth brought in the go-ahead run.

ZULIA 7, LARA 0 IN ZULIA

Lara:  Gabriel Lino (Philadelphia) was 1-for-1 with a double and three walks.  Carlos Rivero (Seattle) was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Romulo Sanchez pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
Zulia:  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer (his fourth) and a double.  Mark Minicozzi (San Francisco) was 1-for-2 with a home run (his third) and two walks, scoring twice.  Jeremy Kehrt (Dodgers) pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and a walk with one strikeout.
The game:  Leading 2-0, Zulia scored five in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Zulia had two singles, three walks, and Pirela's three-run homer in the inning.
