Mexican Pacific League: Games of November 18


Carlos Valencia’s two-run homer lifts Obregon.  Eric Farris gets a key hit for Culiacan, but to no avail.  The fours are with Jalisco.

OBREGON 4, MAZATLAN 2 IN OBREGON

Mazatlan:  Olmo Rosario was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and two runs.  Derrick Robinson (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Steven Hensley (Baltimore) pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Obregon:  Carlos Valencia was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his eighth.  Sergio Contreras was 2-for-3 with a double.  Arturo Lopez pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Valencia’s two-run homer came in the sixth and put Obregon up 4-1.  Mazatlan had the tying run on base in both the seventh and the ninth.

MEXICALI 5, CULIACAN 3 IN CULIACAN (11 INNINGS)

TwinsEric Farris was 1-for-6 with an RBI for Culiacan.

Mexicali:  Walter Ibarra (Arizona) was 4-for-6 with a triple and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Chris Roberson was 1-for-6 with a home run (his third) and two runs.  Juan Omar Espinoza pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Culiacan:  Nick Buss (Arizona) was 2-for-6 with a double and a run.  Issmael Salas was 2-for-5 with an RBI.  Gonzalo Sanudo (Houston) pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The gameFarris singled in a run with one out in the ninth to tie the score 3-3.  Roberson homered in the eleventh to give Mexicali the lead and an insurance run scored on a balk.

JALISCO 8, NAVOJOA 6 IN JALISCO

Navojoa:  John Lindsey was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.  Rolando Acosta was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Jose Manuel Lopez pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Jalisco:  Japhet Amador was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in three.  Ivan Araujo was 3-for-4 with two runs.  Brian Broderick (Washington) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

The game:  Jalisco scored four in the fifth to go up 4-3, but trailed 6-4 going to the eighth, when they scored four more to win the game.  Jalisco went into the lead to stay on a two-run homer by Gabriel Gutierrez.

LOS MOCHIS 3, HERMOSILLO 0 IN HERMOSILLO

Los Mochis:  Juan Carlos Gamboa was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Sandy Madera was 3-for-5.  Luis Niebla (Yankees) pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Sebastian Elizalde (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Juan Pablo Oramas (San Diego) struck out six in five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks.

The game:  Los Mochis scored single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth.  Hermosillo had five hits and stranded seven runners.
