Dominican Winter League: Games of November 18


A 1-0 win for Oriente.  A second-and-home double steal is key for Este.  Richar makes Aguilas richer.

ORIENTE 1, LICEY 0 IN LICEY

Oriente:  Alberto Rosario (Dodgers) was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Elian Herrera (Milwaukee) was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.  Scott Copeland (Toronto) pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Licey:  Domingo Santana (Houston) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Mitch Atkins (Atlanta) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  The lone run came in the sixth when Rosario hit a two-out single and scored on Herrera’s triple.  Licey out-hit Oriente five to four but stranded eight runners.

ESTE 3, CIBAO 2 IN ESTE

Cibao:  Jonathan Diaz (Toronto) was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Alexi Casilla (Baltimore) was 3-for-4.  Rafael Perez (Pittsburgh) pitched five shutout innings, giving up six hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Este:  Jose Ramirez (Cleveland) was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Cesar Puello (Mets) was 3-for-4 with a run.  Elih Villaneuva (Miami) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Cibao led 2-0 after five and still led 2-1 going to the bottom of the ninth.  With men on first and third with one out, Este pulled off a double steal of second and home to tie the score.  With two down, Eugenio Velez (Milwaukee) hit an RBI single to bring home the winning run.

AGUILAS 7, ESCOGIDO 3 IN AGUILAS

TwinsJorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk for Escogido.

Escogido:  Jordan Pacheco (Arizona) was 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk, scoring twice.  Wilkin Castillo was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Edward Valdez struck out eight in 3.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks.

Aguilas:  Danny Richar was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second) and three RBIs.  Manny Ramirez (Manny Ramirez) was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Lay Batista (Atlanta) pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout.

The game:  Already leading 2-1, Aguilas scored three in the fifth on Richar’s two-run homer and an RBI single by Angel Franco (Kansas City).  Escogido cut it to 5-3 in the top of the sixth but Aguilas got two more on four singles in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
