Mexican Pacific League: Games of November 15

A two-out tenth-inning rally wins it for Mazatlan.  A fifth-inning rally for Mexicali.  Bases on balls and a grand slam lift Obregon.

MAZATLAN 3, HERMOSILLO 2 IN MAZATLAN (10 INNINGS)

Hermosillo:  Matt Padgett was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jerry Owens was 2-for-4.  Hector Galvan pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Mazatlan:  Derrick Robinson (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  Jose Manuel Orozco was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Francisco Villa (Dodgers) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  The score was tied 2-2 with two out in the bottom of the tenth.  Orozco then walked and Gilberto Mejia and Oswaldo Morejon singled to bring him home with the winning run.

MEXICALI 6, LOS MOCHIS 4 IN LOS MOCHIS

Mexicali:  Luis Juarez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Dave Sappelt was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his second) and two runs.  Matt Gorgen (Arizona) pitched two perfect innings.

Los Mochis:  Juan Carlos Gamboa was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice.  Ernesto Molinet was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Julian Arballo (Yankees) retired all eight men he faced, striking out two.

The game:  Trailing 4-2 after four, Mexicali scored three in the fifth to go into the lead to stay.  A two-run double by Juarez tied it and a double by Matt Jacobs put Mexicali ahead.  Gil Velazquez singled in an insurance run in the eighth.

OBREGON 5, NAVOJOA 1 IN OBREGON

Navojoa:  Alejandro Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a run.  Luis Fonseca was 2-for-4 with a double.  Salvador Robles pitched six innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Obregon:  Carlos Valencia was 1-for-3 with a grand slam, his sixth homer.  Donell Linares was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Jorge Castillo pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Navojoa scored in the third and still led 1-0 through six.  A squeeze bunt tied it in the seventh and three walks and a Valencia grand slam made it 5-1 in the eighth.

CULIACAN 16, JALISCO 5 IN JALISCO

Culiacan:  Nick Buss (Arizona) was 4-for-5 with two two-run homers (his fourth and fifth) and three runs.  Rico Noel (San Diego) was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring four times and driving in two.  Federico Castaneda pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Jalisco:  Marquez Smith (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his eighth) and a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Jesus Lopez was 3-for-4.  Carlos Vazquez struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  Buss hit a two-run homer to cap a four-run second that put Culiacan up 5-0.  Noel had a two-run double and Buss hit another two-run homer in the third in a six-run inning that put the game well out of reach.
