Venezuelan Winter League: Games of November 21


A run without a hit wins it for Zulia.  A comeback falls short for Margarita.  Singles night for Anzoategui and Magallanes.

ZULIA 3, LARA 2 IN LARA

Zulia:  Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 2-for-5 with a run.  Reegie Corona was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Yeiper Castillo pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Lara:  Carlos Rivero was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Maikol Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Romulo Sanchez pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  With the score tied at two, Zulia scored the go-ahead run in the seventh without a hit.  An error, a walk, a bunt, and a sacrifice fly brought home what turned out to be the winning run.

CARACAS 3, MARGARITA 2 IN CARACAS

Margarita:  David Peralta (Arizona) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Taylor Motter (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Forrest Snow (Seattle) struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.

Caracas:  L. J. Hoes (Houston) was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Roberto Lopez was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Jarrett Grube struck out seven in five shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk.

The game:  Hoes’ two-run single in the seventh put Caracas up 3-0.  Margarita got two in the eighth but did not get the tying run past first base.

ANZOATEGUI 4, ARAGUA 2 IN ANZOATEGUI

TwinsArgenis Diaz was 1-for-2 for Aragua.  Eduardo Escobar was 0-for-4 for Aragua.  Josmil Pinto pinch-hit for Aragua and was 0-for-1.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4 for Anzoategui.

Aragua:  Jose Martinez was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Alex Romero was 1-fo-2 with two walks and a run.  Jose Ortega (Colorado) retired all four men he faced.

Anzoategui:  Jose Castillo was 1-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Oscar Salazar was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run.  Pedro Rodriguez pitched a perfect perfect inning, striking out all three batters he faced.

The game:  Anzoategui scored three in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie.  A single, Castillo’s triple, and four more singles produced the runs.

MAGALLANES 6, LA GUAIRA 4 IN MAGALLANES

TwinsHeiker Meneses was 0-for-1 as a reserve for La Guaira

La Guaira:  Odubel Herrera (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Edgmer Escalona pitched six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Magallanes:  Endy Chavez was 3-for-5 with two runs.  Ronny Cedeno was 3-for-4 with a run.  David Martinez (Texas) pitched five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Trailing 3-2, Magallanes scored four in the seventh.  Five consecutive singles and an error produced the runs.
