Puerto Rican League: Games of November 15


Pitching and a three-run homer carry Carolina.  A pair of Twins lead Mayaguez to victory.

CAROLINA 6, SANTURCE 0 IN SANTURCE

Carolina:  Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer (his third) and a walk.  Ozzie Martinez (Baltimore) was 3-for-4 with a run.  Mario Santiago struck out eight in eight shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks.

Santurce:  Jorge Martinez pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  It was scoreless through six.  In the seventh, a sacrifice fly was followed by Garcia’s three-run homer to give Carolina all the runs they would need.

MAYAGUEZ 9, SAN JUAN 2 IN MAYAGUEZ

TwinsDaniel Ortiz was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs for Mayaguez.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third), a double, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two for Mayaguez.

San Juan:  John Andreoli (Cubs) was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Christian Vazquez (Boston) was 2-for-2 with an RBI.  Yhonathan Barrios (Pittsburgh) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Mayaguez:  Adalberto Santos (San Francisco) was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, scoring once and driving in three.  Luis Collazo struck out five in two perfect innings.

The game:  Santos’ two-run double capped a three-run fourth that put Mayaguez up 4-2.  Ortiz had a two-run double in a three-run sixth that put the game out of reach.
