Australian League: Games of November 15


Logan Wade is the hero for Brisbane.  A rain-shortened win for Adelaide.  A big eighth inning carries Canberra.

ADELAIDE 3, PERTH 2 IN ADELAIDE (7 INNINGS—RAIN)

Perth:  Brian Pointer (Philadelphia) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Joey Wong (Colorado) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Liam Baron pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Adelaide:  Tom Brice (White Sox) was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Aaron Miller (Dodgers) was 2-for-3.  Morgan Coombs struck out six in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and five walks.

The game:  Brice’s homer in the fourth tied it at two and a sacrifice fly in the fifth put Adelaide in the lead.  Perth loaded the bases with one out in the sixth but did not get a baserunner after that.

BRISBANE 4, MELBOURNE 3 IN BRISBANE

TwinsLogan Wade was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his second) for Brisbane.

Melbourne:  Brad Harman (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a double.  Adam Engel (White Sox) was 2-for-5 with a run.  Makoto Aiuchi pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Brisbane:  C. J. Beatty (White Sox) was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, scoring once.  Justin Erasmus (Boston) struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits.

The game:  Brisbane trailed 3-2 in the eighth when Wade hit a two-run homer that provided the margin of victory.  Melbourne had the tying run on third with two out in the ninth.

CANBERRA 8, SYDNEY 1 IN SYDNEY

Canberra:  Mitch Walding (Philadelphia) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Anthony Alford (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Tim Atherton (Oakland) pitched six shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

Sydney:  Michael Lysaught was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Trent D’Antonio (Miami) was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Luke Wilkins pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  Canberra led 1-0 after seven, then scored six in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Walding had a two-run double in the inning.
