Mexican Winter League: Games of November 19

Obregon holds on.  A big inning carries Jalisco.  Hey, Camarena!

CULIACAN 1, MEXICALI 0 IN CULIACAN

TwinsEric Farris was 0-for-4 with an RBI for Culiacan.

Mexicali:  Xorge Carrillo (Mets) was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Horacio Ramirez pitched five innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and no walks with one strikeout.

Culiacan:  Garrett Weber (Arizona) was 2-for-3.  Marco Camarena pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  The lone run came in the third, when Ali Solis singled, took second on an error, went to third on a bunt, and scored on a ground out.  There were only eight hits in the game, with Culiacan getting five of them.

OBREGON 5, MAZATLAN 4 IN OBREGON

Mazatlan:  Jesus Castillo was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, scoring twice.  Heber Gomez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Felipe Gonzalez (Pittsburgh) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk with one strikeout.

Obregon:  Carlos Valencia was 2-for-3 with two home runs (his ninth and tenth) and a walk, driving in four.  Donald Lutz was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Alejandro Martinez pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Valencia hit a three-run homer in the fifth to put Obregon ahead 5-2.  Mazatlan got one in the eighth and one in the ninth and had the bases loaded before being retired.

JALISCO 6, NAVOJOA 3 IN JALISCO

Navojoa:  Tim Fedorowicz (Dodgers) was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second) and a triple, driving in two.  Jose Guadalupe Chavez was 4-for-5 with a double and a run.  Luis De La O struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

Jalisco:  Marquez Smith (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Jose Manuel Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run.  Orlando Lara pitched six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Smith’s two-run double capped a four-run fifth that put Jalisco ahead 6-1.  Navojoa brought the tying run up to bat with one out in the ninth.

LOS MOCHIS 11, HERMOSILLO 4 IN HERMOSILLO

Los Mochis:  Joan Carlos Pedroso was 1-for-2 with a home run and two walks, scoring twice and driving in four.  Juan Carlos Gamboa (San Diego) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring three times and driving in one.  Santiago Gutierrez pitched 5.1 scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Carlos Alberto Gastelum was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Adan Munoz was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Demetrio Gutierrez struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks.

The game:  Los Mochis led 5-4 after eight, then scored six in the ninth to put the game out of reach.  Los Mochis had four singles, two walks, and a double in the inning.
