Mexican Winter League: Games of November 21


A third-inning rally for Mexicali.  It was palindrome time for Culiacan as Leon drove in Noel with the go-ahead run.  And no, I haven’t given up on the recaps, even though I’m now more than a month behind.

MEXICALI 6, JALISCO 2 IN MEXICALI

Jalisco:  C. J. Retherford was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.  Brendan Harris was 2-for-2 with two walks.  Manuel Flores struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Mexicali:  Chris Roberson was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Gil Velazquez was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Javier Solano pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Mexicali broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the third.  Velazquez capped off the inning with a two-run double.

LOS MOCHIS 7, OBREGON 3 IN LOS MOCHIS

Obregon:  Sergio Contreras was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Donald Lutz was 2-for-3 with two walks.

Los Mochis:  Juan Carlos Gamboa was 2-for-4 with two two-run homers (his fifth and sixth) and a walk.  Yancarlo Angulo was 2-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk.  Jonathan Castellanos pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Leading 3-2 after six, Los Mochis scored two in the seventh and two in the eighth to take control of the game.  Gamboa hit the second of his two-run homers in the eighth inning.

CULIACAN 10, MAZATLAN 4 IN MAZATLAN

TwinsEric Farris was 2-for-3 with a triple and two walks for Culiacan, driving in two.

Culiacan:  Issmael Salas was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Maxwell Leon was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Oscar Villareal struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Mazatlan:  Erick Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Jesus Castillo was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Enrique Lechuga pitched four shutout innings, allowing three hits with three strikeouts.

The game:  In the seventh, Rico Noel walked, stole second and third, and scored on a Leon single to break a 4-4 tie in favor of Culiacan.  Culiacan added three in the eighth and two in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
