Dominican Winter League: Games of November 19

Este pulls it out in the ninth.  Walks make the difference for Cibao.  A good day for Jorge Polanco isn't enough for Escogido.

ESTE 2, AGUILAS 1 IN ESTE

Aguilas:  Zoilo Almonte (Atlanta) was 2-for-4.  Angel Castro (Oakland) pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Este:  Matt Hague (Toronto) was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Tommy Medica (San Diego) was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Dylan Axelrod (Cincinnati) pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Aguilas scored on a double play in the seventh, and the 1-0 lead held until the bottom of the ninth.  Then, an error, a single, and another error tied the score and Hague singled in the winning run.

CIBAO 6, LICEY 3 IN CIBAO

Licey:  Arismendy Alcantara (Cubs) was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Rymer Liriano (San Diego) was 3-for-4 with a run.  Gabriel Arias (Arizona) pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit with two strikeouts.

Cibao:  Maikel Franco (Philadelphia) was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his sixth) and a walk, scoring twice.  Francisco Peguero was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Scott Diamond  pitched five innings of relief, allowing one run on six hits with one strikeout.

The game:  Four walks and an error helped Cibao to a four-run third that gave them a 4-2 lead.  Licey cut the margin to 4-3 in the top of the seventh, but Franco hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to solidify the Cibao lead.

ORIENTE 9, ESCOGIDO 4 IN ESCOGIDO

TwinsJorge Polanco was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run for Escogido.

Oriente:  Audy Ciriaco (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Alberto Rosario was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Eury De La Rosa (Arizona) struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.

Escogido:  Jett Bandy (Angels) was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, driving in two.  Jordan Pacheco was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Stephen Kohlscheen (San Diego) struck out two in a scoreless inning, allowing no hits and no walks.

The game:  Oriente scored three in the fourth to go up 3-1.  Escogido closed to 3-2 in the fourth, but a five-run Oriente sixth put the game out of reach.
