Venezuelan Winter League: Games of November 16


A walkoff in Aragua.  Oswaldo Arcia hits a big homer for Anzoategui.  Easy wins for Lara and La Guira.

ARAGUA 7, MAGALLANES 5 IN ARAGUA

TwinsEduardo Escobar was 0-for-5 with a run for Aragua.  Argenis Diaz was 1-for-4 for Aragua.

Magallanes:  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third) and three RBIs.  Andres Blanco (Philadelphia) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Dustin Richardson (Angels) pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Aragua:  Ramon Flores (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with two home runs and a walk, scoring three times and driving in three.  Hector Gimenez (Milwaukee) was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk.  Ronald Belisario (White Sox) pitched a perfect inning.

The game:  Aragua scored one in the eighth to tie it 5-5.  With one out in the ninth, Flores hit a walkoff home run.

ANZOATEGUI 6, MARGARITA 3 IN MARGARITA

TwinsOswaldo Arcia was 1-for-5 with a two-run homer (his fourth) for Anzoategui.

Anzoategui:  Orlando Arcia (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his seventh) and two runs.  Cory Aldridge (Toronto) was 3-for-4 with two runs.  Mark Serrano (Arizona) struck out five in four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks.

Margarita:  Wilson Batista was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Mario Martinez was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Tyler Cravy (Milwaukee) pitched five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Manny Pina’s (Detroit) RBI double put Margarita up 3-2 in the sixth.  It stayed there until the eighth, when Oswaldo Arcia hit a two-run homer to give Anzoategui the lead.  Jesus Flores (Kansas City) had a two-run single later in the inning.

LARA 7, ZULIA 1 IN ZULIA

Lara:  Carlos Rivero was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his seventh) and two runs.  Maikol Gonzalez (Angels) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Cesar Jimenez (Philadelphia) struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up six hits and a walk.

Zulia:  Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 3-for-5.  Adys Portillo (San Diego) struck out two in a perfect inning.

The game:  Brian Hernandez’ (Angels) two-run single capped a three-run first for Lara.  Two more in the third made it 5-0 and Lara was never threatened.

LA GUAIRA 8, CARACAS 1 IN CARACAS

La Guaira:  Cesar Suarez was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer (his third) and a walk, scoring twice.  Miguel Rojas (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Ramon A. Ramirez pitched four innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Caracas:  Yorvit Torrealba (Cubs) was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Danry Vasquez (Houston) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Buddy Boshers (Angels) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

The game:  Suarez hit a three-run homer in the second to put La Guaira up 3-0.  Caracas got one in the bottom of the second, but Hector Sanchez (San Francisco) hit a two-run homer to make it 5-1 after four and it was never close again.
