Venezuelan Winter League: Games of November 13


Giovanny Urshela leads Zulia to victory.  Lara scores early and late to win.  Big days for Eduardo Escobar and Oswaldo Arcia.

ZULIA 3, CARACAS 1 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Ryan O'Rourke retired the only man he faced for Zulia.  O'Rourke has appeared in thirteen winter league games and has pitched 7.2 innings.
Caracas:  Danry Vasquez (Houston) was 1-for-3 with a run.  Wilsen Palacios (Detroit) struck out seven in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.
Zulia:  Giovanny Urshela (Cleveland) was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Eric Marzec (Milwaukee) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
The game:  Zulia scored two in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.  Urshela tripled in the go-ahead run and scored an insurance run on a sacrifice fly.

LARA 7, ANZOATEGUI 4 IN LARA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.
Anzoategui:  Orlando Arcia (Milwaukee) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Richard Salazar (Baltimore) pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits with three strikeouts.
Lara:  Carlos Rivero (Seattle) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Gabriel Noriega (Seattle) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.  Terry Doyle (Baltimore) struck out six in five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk.
The game:  Rivero had a two-run double in a four-run first that put Lara up 4-0.  Anzoategui had cut the lead to 4-3 when Lara added three in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

ARAGUA 8, LA GUAIRA 3 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar was 3-for-3 with a home run (his second), a double, and two walks, scoring three times for Aragua.  Argenis Diaz was used as a defensive replacement for Aragua.
La Guaira:  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 1-for-4 with a home run.  Alex Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a run.  Arlett Mavare (Texas) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Aragua:  Avisail Garcia (White Sox) was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third) and three RBIs.  Cesar Carrillo struck out five in five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks.
The game:  Garcia led off the third with a home run and Renato Nunez (Oakland) delivered a two-run single later in the inning to put Aragua up 5-1.  The lead was never less than three after that.
