Arizona Fall League: Games of November 7


Starling stars for Peoria.  Glendale gets lots of hits, but no runs.  A four-run eighth is always a Surprise.

PEORIA 5, SALT RIVER 4 IN PEORIA

Twins:  Eddie Rosario was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a double.  Jason Adam pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout.
Salt River:  Peter O'Brien (Arizona) was 2-for-3 with two home runs (his fourth and fifth) and a walk.  Brandon Drury (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.
Peoria:  Justin O'Conner (Tampa Bay) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Bubba Starling (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Aaron Northcraft (Atlanta) pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
The game:  With Salt River down 4-2 after eight, Drury hit a two-out two-run single to tie the score in the top of the ninth.  In the bottom of the ninth, Starling doubled and Jacob Wilson (St. Louis) hit a one-out single to drive him home with the winning run.

SCOTTSDALE 1, GLENDALE 0 IN SCOTTSDALE

Glendale:  Darnell Sweeney (Dodgers) was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Garabez Rosa (Baltimore) was 2-for-4.  Wei-Chung Wang (Milwaukee) struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.
Scottsdale:  Elias Diaz (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with a run.  Aaron Judge (Yankees) was 2-for-4.  Joely Rodriguez (Pittsburgh) struck out four in four shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk.
The game:  Glendale had twelve hits, a walk, and a hit batsman, but could not score.  The lone run came in the eighth, when Diaz singled, took second on a bunt, and scored on an error.

SURPRISE 5, MESA 2 IN MESA

Surprise:  Patrick Kivlehan (Seattle) was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Seth Mejias-Brean (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Nick Howard (Cincinnati) pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Mesa:  Daniel Robertson (Oakland) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once, and driving in one.  Jacob Hannemann (Cubs) was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run.  Ivan Pineyro (Cubs) struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks.
The game:  Trailing 2-1 after seven, Surprise scored four runs in the eighth to take the victory.  Kivlehan singled in the tying run and Hunter Renfroe (San Diego) singled in the go-ahead run.
