Puerto Rican League: Games of November 9


It all goes downhill after the first inning for Caguas.  Carolina leads all the way.

MAYAGUEZ 5, CAGUAS 2 IN MAYAGUEZ

Twins:  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Both players play for Mayaguez.
Caguas:  Luis Mateo was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Justin Wright (St. Louis) struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.
Mayaguez:  Randy Ruiz was 4-for-4 with a double and a run.  Noel Cuevas (Dodgers) was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs.  Jordan Hershiser (Dodgers) pitched two scoreless innings with one strikeout.
The game:  Caguas scored two in the first, but Mayaguez came back with three in the fourth and two in the eighth.  Luis Figueroa singled in the tying run and the go-ahead run was walked in.

CAROLINA 8, SANTURCE 2 IN SANTURCE

Carolina:  Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs.  Ozzie Martinez (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Mario Santiago pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk with no strikeouts.
Santurce:  Yenier Bello (Atlanta) was 1-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jorge Padilla was 0-for-1 with two walks and a run.  Ivan Maldonado struck out two in a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.
The game:  A four-run fifth put Carolina head 6-0.  Garcia had a three-run double in the inning.
