Venezuelan Winter League: October 28


A shutout in Margaritaville.  Choi is the man for Aragua.  A Lewwww sighting!

ANZOATEGUI 6, MARGARITA 0 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-2 with two walks for Margarita.
Anzoategui:  Jose Gil (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Orlando Arcia (Milwaukee) was 1-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs.  Paolo Espino (Washington) struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up one hit and three walks.
Margarita:  Eliezer Alfonzo was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Tyler Cravy (Milwaukee) struck out four in 4.2 innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk.
The game;  Anzoategui scored single runs in the fifth and sixth, then got four in the ninth to take control.  Arcia had a three-run triple in the ninth inning.  Margarita's best scoring chance came in the second, when they had men on second and third with none out.

ARAGUA 8, LA GUAIRA 3 IN LA GUAIRA (10 INNINGS)

Aragua:  Ji-Man Choi (Seattle) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Renato Nunez (Oakland) was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his third.  Doug Mathis (Tampa Bay) pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up seven hits and one walk with one strikeout.
La Guaira:  Rene Reyes was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Miguel Rojas (Dodgers) was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Enrique Gonzalez retired all four men he faced.
The game:  Nunez' three-run homer in the fourth put Aragua up 3-0 and it stayed there until the eighth.  La Guaira scored two in the eighth and Reyes' RBI single in the ninth tied it at three.  In the tenth, Jose Martinez (Oakland) singled in the go-ahead run, then Choi hit a three-run double and later came around to score and give Aragua the victory.

LARA 8, MAGALLANES 3 IN LARA

Magallanes:  Tomas Telis (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Lew Ford (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Keivi Rojas (Miami) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Lara:  Brian Hernandez (Angels) was 4-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.  Gabriel Noriega (Seattle) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Tim Gustafson (Colorado) struck out two in two perfect innings.
The game:  Leading 4-2, Lara scored three in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
