Arizona Fall League: Games of October 11


Eddie Rosario keeps hitting.  Two-run homers are key for Scottsdale.   Towey trucks in some key runs for Mesa.

SALT RIVER 2, GLENDALE 1 IN GLENDALE

Twins:  Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 with a run.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a run.  Jake Reed pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up two hits and a walk.  He struck out one.
Salt River:  Ryan Casteel (Colorado) was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Anthony DeSclafani (Miami pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Glendale:  Tyrone Taylor (Milwaukee) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Tim Anderson (White Sox) was 2-for-3 with a run.  Parker Bridwell (Baltimore) pitched two shutout innings, allowing only a walk with one strikeout.
The game:  Singles by Buxton and Rosario led off the sixth, and an RBI ground out plated Buxton with the go-ahead run, breaking a 1-1 tie.  Glendale loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but a strikeout and a fly out ended the game.

SCOTTSDALE 7, SURPRISE 6 IN SURPRISE (10 INNINGS)

Scottsdale:  Matt Reynolds (Colorado) was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and a double, scoring twice.  Kyle Higashioka (Yankees) was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs.  Ethan Stewart (Philadelphia) struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up no hits but three walks.
Surprise:  Patrick Kivlehan (Seattle) was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, his second.  Trea Turner (San Diego) was 3-for-5 with a walk and two RBIs.  Carlos Gonzalez (Cincinnati) struck out two in a scoreless inning, allowing only a walk.
The game:  Reynolds hit a two-run homer in the tenth to put Scottsdale up 7-5.  Nick Williams (Texas) hit an RBI double in the bottom of the tenth to make it 7-6, but he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

MESA 6, PEORIA 3 IN MESA

Peoria:  Tony Wolters (Cleveland) was 1-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Kes Carter (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Grant Sides (Cleveland) struck out two in a perfect inning.
Mesa:  Matt Olson (Oakland) was 2-for-3 with two home runs and a walk, scoring three times.  Cal Towey (Angels) was 1-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, driving in two.  Nate Smith (Angels) pitched three shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.
The game:  Towey's two-run double in the sixth gave Mesa a 4-0 lead.  Peoria scored three in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3, but Dalton Pompey (Toronto) tripled in a run and later came around to score in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-3.
