An eighth-inning homer makes the difference as the Dominican League gets underway!
ORIENTE 5, ESTE 4 IN ESTE
Oriente: Gustavo Nunez was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, driving in four. Austin Wales was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Esmerling Vasquez retired all four men he faced, striking out two of them.
Este: Yasmani Grandal was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk. Matt Hague was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Jhan Marinez struck out two in a perfect inning.
The game: Este had leads of 3-0 and 4-3. Oriente still trailed 4-3 after seven, but a two-run homer by Nunez put them into the lead at 5-4. Este got a leadoff walk in the bottom of the eighth but their last six batters were retired.
