Venezuelan Winter League: Games of October 21


Anzoategui gets a four-run lead and hangs on.  Caracas gets a two-run lead and hangs on.

ANZOATEGUI 5, MARGARITA 4 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs for Margarita.
Margarita:  Mario Yepez (Seattle) was 2-for-2 with a double and a run.  Eliezer Alfonzo was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Jhonathan (Pittsburgh) Ramos pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.
Anzoategui:  Orlando Arcia (Milwaukee) was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second) and a triple, driving in three.  Niuman Romero (Baltimore) was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice.  Daryl Thompson pitched 3.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and four walks with one strikeout.
The game:  Anzoategui broke a 1-1 tie with a four-run fifth.  Arcia hit a two-run homer and Jose Castillo a two-run double in the inning.  Alfonzo had a two-run single in a three run seventh that made it 5-4 and Margarita had the tying run in scoring position in the seventh and the eighth.

CARACAS 4, MAGALLANES 3 IN MAGALLANES

Caracas:  Henry Alejandro Rodriguez (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a home run and two walks, scoring twice.  Felix Perez (Cincinnati) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Boone Whiting (St. Louis) pitched 4.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and five walks with three strikeouts.
Magallanes:  Ronny Cedeno (Arizona) was 1-for-2 with three walks.  Mario Lisson (San Francisco) was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks.  David Martinez (Houston) struck out five in five innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks.
The game:  RBI singles by Yorvit Torrealba (Cubs) and Perez put Caracas ahead 3-2 in the sixth.  It was 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth when Tomas Telis (Texas) homered to make it 4-3.  Lisson hit a two-out double in the ninth but did not advance.
