ROCHESTER 1, LEHIGH VALLEY 0 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1—8 INNINGS—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Pedro Florimon was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching star:  Nick Blackburn pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Steve Susdorf was 2-for-3.  Tyler Cloyd went six shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks.

Key inning:  The eighth.  In a scoreless tie, Florimon led off the inning with a walk and took second on a bunt.  Danny Valencia delivered an RBI single to bring in the winning run.

Other:  The teams combined for fourteen hits, all singles.

LEHIGH VALLEY 7, ROCHESTER 1 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Wilkin Ramirez was 2-for-2.  Matt Carson was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Danny Valencia was 2-for-4.

Pitching star:  Daniel Sattler threw two perfect innings of relief.

Opposition stars:  Kyle Hudson was 2-for-4.  Michael Martinez and Pete Orr each hit a three-run homer.

Key inning:  The second.  In a scoreless tie, the IronPigs scored all seven of their runs.  They batted ten, getting three singles, a walk, an error, and two three-run homers.

Other:  Sean Burroughs was ejected during the big Lehigh Valley seventh in what was apparently a carryover argument from the first game.

NEW BRITAIN 4, NEW HAMPSHIRE 0 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Chris Colabello was 3-for-4 with a double.  Estarlin De Los Santos was 2-for-3.  Aaron Hicks was 2-for-4.

Pitching star:  Blake Martin threw a three-hit shutout, walking none and striking out six.

Opposition stars:  None.

Key inning:  The third.  The Rock Cats led 1-0.  With two out, Colabello singled and Evan Bigley hit a two-run homer to give New Britain valuable insurance runs.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 5, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Chris Herrmann was 2-for-4 with a home run, his seventh.

Pitching star:  In his AA debut, Marty Popham gave up one run on one hit in three innings.

Opposition stars:  Brad Glenn was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Kenen Bailli was 2-for-3.  Fernando Hernandez struck out three in three shutout innings.

Key inning:  The sixth.  In a 4-4 tie, Jack Murphy hit a one-out homer to put the Fisher Cats in the lead.

Other:  The Rock Cats scored all of their runs in the first inning.  They got only two hits after that.

JUPITER 7, FORT MYERS 5 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Daniel Santana, Levi Michael, and Josmil Pinto were each 2-for-4.

Pitching star:  Cole Nelson pitched six innings, allowing only one run on seven hits and three walks.

Opposition stars:  Jacob Realmuto was 3-for-5 with a double.  Mark Canha was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks, scoring three times.  Taylor Krick was 2-for-3 with a double.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Trailing 4-3, the Hammerheads scored four times.  Jupiter hit three doubles, but were aided by two Miracle errors.  Three of the four runs were unearned.

BURLINGTON 5, BELOIT 3 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Adam Pettersen was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his second.  Matthew Koch was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jonathan Goncalves was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching star:  Steven Evans struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up just one hit.

Opposition stars:  Rashun Dixon was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Douglas Landaeta was 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The third.  Leading 1-0, the Bees scored three times.  Michael Fabiaschi tripled and Eliezer Mesa homered for the first two runs.  A hit batsman, a walk, and Dixon’s RBI single produced the third run.

JOHNSON CITY 6, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN JOHNSON CITY

Batting star:  Max Kepler was 2-for-5 and drove in two.

Pitching stars:  Christian Powell struck out two in a perfect inning.  Tyler Herr pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Jeremy Schaffer was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Ronard Castillo was 3-for-4.  Carson Kelly was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Leading 3-2, the Cardinals put the game away with a three run inning.  They started the inning with five consecutive singles, producing two runs, and a sacrifice fly brought home a third.

Other:  The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for Elizabethton.  The Twins have yet to win on Sunday; three of their six losses have come on Sundays.
