Games of July 12


ROCHESTER 4, TOLEDO 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting star:  Tsuyoshi Niskioka was 2-for-3 with a double.
Pitching stars:  Jeff Manship gave up eight hits and two walks but only an unearned run in five innings.  Luis Perdomo struck out two in two perfect innings.
Opposition star:  Jerad Head was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The Red Wings trailed 1-0 and had only one hit in five innings.  Pedro Florimon walked and Matt Carson singled to start the inning.  With one out, Danny Valencia delivered an RBI single and a second run scored on an error.  A walk put two on again, and Nishioka doubled to drive in two and give Rochester a 4-1 lead.  The Red Wings did not get another hit the rest of the game, getting out-hit 9-4.
Other:  Thurman Thomas will be in Rochester to sign autographs before tonight’s game.

TRENTON 7, NEW BRITAIN 6 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting star:  Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run (his second), driving in three.
Pitching stars:  Edgar Ibarra and Bruce Pugh had identical pitching lines, each going a scoreless inning and striking out two while allowing two hits.
Opposition stars:  David Adams was 5-for-5 with a double, driving in three.  Kevin Mahoney was 3-for-5 with a double.  Addison Maruszak was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.
Key inning:  The sixth.  Leading 5-4, the Thunder scored two important insurance runs.  A single, a walk, and a single scored one.  An error and a ground out scored the other.
Other:  Trenton out-hit the Rock Cats 17-7.

CLEARWATER 4, FORT MYERS 3 IN CLEARWATER (12 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Joe Benson was 3-for-5 with a walk, double, and a home run, his first.  Daniel Santana was 2-for-6 with a double.  Kyle Knudson was 2-for-6.
Pitching star:  A. J. Achter gave up only one hit in three shutout innings.
Opposition stars:  Cameron Rupp was 3-for-5.  Carlos Alonso was 3-for-6.  Harold Martinez was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple.
Key inning:  The twelfth.  With the score tied at three, Alonso led off the inning with a single, went to second on a bunt, and took third on a wild pitch.  He scored the winning run on a Rupp single.
Other:  Roy Halladay started for Clearwater on a rehab assignment.  He gave up an unearned run on three hits in three innings, striking out four.  The hits were an RBI double by Benson and singles by Santana and Michael Gonzales.

BELOIT 6, FORT WAYNE 2 IN FORT WAYNE

Batting star:  Jonathan Goncalves was 3-for-5 with a double.
Pitching star:  Jason Wheeler went eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Mike Gallic was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Jace Peterson was 2-for-4 with a triple.
Key inning:  The seventh.  The Snappers led 3-2.  Three walks loaded the bases and Goncalves hit a two-run single to put Beloit comfortably ahead.

ELIZABETHTON 12, GREENEVILLE 1 IN GREENEVILLE

Batting stars:  Candido Pimentel was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-5 with a double.  D. J. Hicks was 2-for-5.
Pitching star:  Starter Hein Robb worked four no-hit innings, giving up one walk and striking out four.
Opposition star:  Christian Garcia threw two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.
Key inning:  The fifth.  The Twins led 2-0.  Singles by Michael Quesada and Pimentel and a walk to Goodrum loaded the bases.  Romy Jimenez walked to force in a run, Hicks singled in two more, and Adam Walker singled in another to make the score 6-0.
Other:  Elizabethton limited the Astros to two hits and two walks and made no errors.

GCL TWINS 6, ORIOLES 5 AT ORIOLES

Batting stars:  Joel Licon was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Rene Tosoni was 2-for-4 with a double.  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-5 with a double.
Pitching star:  Gerardo Ramirez struck out four in three innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Nikolas Balog was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Kristopher Richards was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Domingo Salas struck out three in three shutout innings.
Key inning:  The fourth.  The Orioles had overcome a 3-0 deficit to tie the score at three.  The Twins had a runner on third with two out.  Tosoni hit an RBI double and scored on a single by Mejia to give the Twins a 5-3 lead.

DSL TWINS 17, REDS 4 AT REDS

Batting stars:  Jorge Andrade was 3-for-6 with a home run, his second.  He scored three times and drove in three.  Francis Mateo was 3-for-6 with two doubles.  Adonis Pacheco was 3-for-4 with two walks and a double, driving in five.
Pitching stars:  Damian Defrank allowed one run on two hits in four innings.  Argenis Silva struck out two and walked one in two shutout innings.  Fernando Romero struck out three in 1.2 innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  None.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The score was tied at four.  Four singles and two walks produced three Twins runs.  Jhon Silva and Engelb Vielma each had RBI singles and Pacheco picked up an RBI with a walk.
Other:  The Twins scored thirteen runs in the last four innings.
