Games of July 4


PAWTUCKET 7, ROCHESTER 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting star:  Matt Carson hit a two-run homer, his seventh.
Pitching stars:  Esmerling Vasquez gave up two hits in 3.2 scoreless innings.  Caleb Thielbar threw two shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Jason Repko was 2-for-5 with a triple and a home run.  Jonathan Hee was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer.  Lars Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double.
Key inning:  The second.  Leading 2-1, the Red Sox put up a four-spot.  Two singles and a Hee homer scored three runs.  Repko then tripled and scored on Anderson’s single.

NEW BRITAIN 3, TRENTON 2 IN TRENTON

Batting star:  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eleventh.  James Beresford was 2-for-3.
Pitching stars:  Logan Darnell gave up two runs on seven hits and a walk in 6.2 innings.  Dakota Watts allowed a walk in 1.1 scoreless innings.  Bruce Pugh struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Addison Maruszak was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run.  Mikey O’Brien gave up a run on three hits and a walk in six innings.

FORT MYERS 7, CHARLOTTE 5 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting stars:  Jairo Perez was 3-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his sixth.  Daniel Santana was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple.  Daniel Rams was 2-for-5 with a triple and a home run, his third.
Pitching stars:  Starter Matthew Hauser struck out four in four innings, allowing five hits and no walks.  Jose Gonzalez struck out five in three innings, giving up only one walk.
Opposition stars:  Steven Tinoco was 3-for-4.  David Wendt was 3-for-4.  Derek Dietrich was 2-for-5 with a double, driving in three.
Key inning:  The second.  In a scoreless tie, Perez hit a two run homer.  Rams followed with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to put the Miracle ahead 3-0.

CLINTON 8, BELOIT 6 IN CLINTON

Batting stars:  None.
Pitching stars:  None.
Opposition stars:  Daniel Paolini was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in three.  Dillon Hazlett was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks.  Steven Baron was 2-for-4 with a home run.
Key inning:  The seventh.  The Snappers had used three singles, a walk, and four errors to score six runs in the sixth to tie the game.  With two out in the seventh, Paolini hit a two-run homer to provide the LumberKings with the margin of victory.

ELIZABETHON 8, KINGSPORT 1 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Joshua Hendricks was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Adam Walker was 2-for-5 with a double.  Romy Jimenez was 2-for-4.
Pitching star:  Hudson Boyd allowed an unearned run on five hits and a walk in six innings.  Hein Robb worked one inning and struck out four, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Gavin Cecchini was 2-for-4.  Matthew Budgell gave up an unearned run while striking out three in three innings.
Key inning:  The fourth.  The Twins already led 3-0.  A single, an error, and a Niko Goodrum double produced one.  A walk loaded the bases and an infield out scored the second run.  Walker doubled to score the third, and an error brought a fourth run home to put the Twins up 7-0.

GCL TWINS 5, ORIOLES 0 AT TWINS (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Bryan Haar was 2-for-3.  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars:  Felix Jorge struck out three in three innings, allowing a hit and a walk.  Markus Solbach gave up two hits in two innings.  Gonzalo Sanudo allowed one hit in two innings.
Opposition star:  Josh Hader struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings.
Key inning:  The third.  The Twins led 2-0.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases.  A ground out scored one, and a walk re-loaded the bases.  Two wild pitches scored two more runs.

GCL ORIOLES 6, TWINS 4 AT ORIOLES (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Dereck Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a home run, his second.
Pitching stars:  None.
Opposition stars:  Tommy Richards was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double.  Adrian Marin was 2-for-4.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The Twins tied the score at four in the top of the inning.  In the bottom, a two-run double by Gregory Lorenzo gave the Orioles the margin of victory.
Other:  The Twins made five errors in the game.

DSL TWINS 15, PADRES 4 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Joel Polanco was 2-for-4 with a double, driving in three.  Francis Mateo was 2-for-5 with a double, driving in three.  Dubal Baez was 2-for-4 and scored four times.
Pitching stars:  Argenis Silva struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Reyson Zoquiel struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Daniel Bravo was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Franchy Cordero was 2-for-5.
Key inning:  The fifth.  The score was tied at four.  A hit batsman and a two-run homer by Adonis Pacheco put the Twins ahead.  Two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases.  Mateo singled in two and an error brought another home, giving the Twins a five-run inning and a 9-4 lead.
Other:  The Twins did manage to out-hit the Padres in this game, but only by one, 9-8.
