Games of July 19


ROCHESTER 14, NORFOLK 8 IN NORFOLK

Batting stars:  Brian Dinkelman was 4-for-6 with a double and a triple.  Evan Bigley was 3-for-4 with a double and drove in three.  Pedro Florimon was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.
Pitching stars:  Daniel Sattler worked 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Brendan Wise struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Brandon Waring was 3-for-5 with a home run.  Carlos R Reyes was 3-for-4.  Blake Davis was 2-for-5 with a double.
Key inning:  The fifth.  The Red Wings trailed 7-2.  Ray Chang singled, Danny Lehmann doubled, and Dinkelman tripled to open the inning.  Matt Carson and Chris Parmelee followed with singles, making the score 7-5.  The next two batters went out, but Bigley and Florimon each singled to tie the game at seven.

NEW BRITAIN AT HARRISBURG

The game was suspended after 2 ½ innings with the Rock Cats leading 4-0.  Joe Benson hit a two-run triple.  The game will be completed prior to the regularly scheduled game tonight.

LAKELAND 4, FORT MYERS 3 IN LAKELAND

Batting star:  Daniel Santana was 2-for-4 with a double.
Pitching stars:  Jose Gonzalez struck out two in two innings, allowing one hit.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  Dixon Machado was 2-for-3 with a double.  Daniel Fields was 2-for-4 with a double.  Luis Angel Sanz gave up one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings.
Key inning:  The seventh.  The Miracle trailed 4-1.  A hit batsman, a walk, and another hit batsman loaded the bases with one out.  Daniel Ortiz singled, scoring two and sending the tying run to third, but Ortiz was thrown out trying to go to second.  The baserunning out took Fort Myers out of the inning, as the next batter was retired to end the threat.

BELOIT 2, LANSING 1 IN BELOIT (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Drew Leachman was 2-for-2 with a walk.  Stephen Wickens was 2-for-3.
Pitching stars:  Jason Wheeler struck out six in six innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks.  Corey Williams struck out two in one inning, giving up one hit.
Opposition star:  Carlos Perez was 2-for-2 with a double.
Key inning:  The second.  In a scoreless tie, the Lugnuts broke the ice when Gustavo Perez tripled and Kevin Patterson doubled him in.  In the bottom of the inning, singles by Leachman and Steven Liddle and a walk to Jairo Rodriguez loaded the bases with one out.  Wickens then came through with a two-run single to give the Snappers all the runs they would need.
Other:  Lugnuts manager Kenny Graham was ejected in the seventh following a Lansing runner being picked off by Williams.

BELOIT 7, LANSING 1 IN BELOIT (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 3-for-4 with a home run, his twentieth.  He drove in four.  Steven Liddle was 2-for-3 with two doubles.  Drew Leachman was 2-for-3.
Pitching stars:  Starter Cole Johnson struck out six in three hitless innings, walking one.  Mason Melotakis struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing two hits.  Ryan O’Rourke struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars:  None.
Key inning:  The first.  Nate Roberts led off with a walk, took second on a passed ball, stole third, and scored on a Sano single.  Leachman then singled and Liddle hit a two-run double to put the Snappers up 3-0.
Other:  Normally a reliever, Johnson was making his first start of the season…Lansing pitching coach Vince Horsman was ejected in the bottom of the sixth.

JOHNSON CITY AT ELIZABETHTON

The game was suspended in the top of the second in a scoreless tie.  It will be finished as part of a doubleheader on Saturday.

GCL RAYS 4, TWINS 2 AT RAYS

Batting star:  Joel Licon was 1-for-2 with two walks.
Pitching stars:  Chris Mazza threw three shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Melciades De La Cruz struck out two in two shutout innings, walking two.
Opposition star:  Benjamin Kline was 2-for-4.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The score was tied at two.  Bryan Santy led off with a single.  An error on a Logan Wade bunt put runners on second and third.  A passed ball put the Twins ahead and a sacrifice fly gave them an insurance run.

DSL DIAMONDBACKS 10, TWINS 2 AT DIAMONDBACKS

Batting stars:  Adonis Pacheco was 3-for-4.  Joel Polanco was 2-for-4 with a double.
Pitching stars:  Jose Ramirez gave up three walks but no hits in 2.1 scoreless innings.
Opposition stars:  Yorman Garcia was 3-for-6 with a triple, scoring three times.  Jesse Liriano was 3-for-5.  Raul Garcia was 2-for-5 with a triple and drove in three.
Key inning:  The second.  Leading 1-0, the Diamondbacks scored five times.  Three singles, two walks, and Raul Garcia’s two-run triple produced the runs.
