Games of August 5


ROCHESTER 10, TOLEDO 9 IN TOLEDO (19 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Wilkin Ramirez and Ray Chang were each 4-for-9 with a double.  Chris Parmelee was 3-for-8 with a walk, a double, and a home run, his twelfth.
Pitching stars:  Luke French struck out five in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and three walks.  Caleb Thielbar struck out four in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks.  Bobby Lanigan gave up a hit and a walk in three shutout innings.
Opposition stars:  John Lindsey was 5-for-7 with a double, two home runs, and three walks, driving in six.  Jamie Johnson was 4-for-8 with a triple and two walks.  Luke Putkonen worked five shutout innings of relief, allowing four hits.
Key inning:  The ninteenth.  The score was tied at seven.  With two out and none on, Clete Thomas singled and scored on an Evan Bigley double.  Brian Dinkelman then singled in Bigley and Chang doubled in Dinkelman to put the Red Wings ahead 10-7.  In the bottom of the inning, Lindsey hit a two-out two-run homer to pull the Mud Hens within one, but Deolis Guerra retired Danny Dorn to end the game.
Other:  Rochester lost a 2-0 lead, but came back from deficits of 6-2 and 7-6.  Parmelee’s home run came with two out in the ninth and tied the score.  The teams combined for 43 hits, 25 of them by the Red Wings.

NEW BRITAIN 13, ALTOONA 4 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Joe Benson was 3-for-5 with a double and his third home run of the season, a grand slam.  He scored three times and drove in five.  Oswaldo Arcia was 3-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring three times.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with a walk and his sixteenth home run, driving in four.
Pitching star:  Marty Popham struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing two hits.
Opposition star:  Brock Holt was 3-for-4.
Key inning:  The fifth.  The Rock Cats trailed 2-1.  With two out and none on, Aaron Hicks singled and Chris Herrmann walked.  Arcia tied the score with an RBI single and Chris Colabello walked to load the bases.  Benson then hit a grand slam to put New Britain ahead 6-2.

ST. LUCIE 9, FORT MYERS 1 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting star:  Daniel Rams was 1-for-2 with two walks and drove in the lone Miracle run.
Pitching star:  Ricky Bowen worked 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars:  Richard Lucas was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, driving in three.  Robbie Shields was 3-for-4.  Chase Hutchingson struck out five in six innings, allowing one run on four hits and four walks.
Key inning:  The third.  In a 1-1 tie, the Mets scored four times.  Two singles and a ground out broke the tie.  With two out and two on, Lucas hit a three-run homer to give St. Lucie a comfortable lead.

BELOIT 8, WISCONSIN 2 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his twenty-second.  JaDamion Williams was 2-for-5 with his third homer of the season, a grand slam.  Drew Leachman was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars:  David Hurlbut gave up one run on two hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings.  Tim Atherton struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing only a walk.
Opposition star:  Kevin Shackleford worked two perfect innings of relief.
Key inning:  The fourth.  Trailing 3-0, the Timber Rattlers scored on a walk, a wild pitch, a single, and a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the inning, two singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases and Williams hit a one-out grand slam to give the Snappers a 7-1 lead.

DANVILLE AT ELIZABETHTON

Rained out.  The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
