Games of August 13


LEHIGH VALLEY 5, ROCHESTER 3 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Batting star:  Clete Thomas was 2-for-5 with two doubles.
Pitching star:  Kyle Waldrop threw two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Pete Orr was 4-for-4 with a home run.  Sebastian Valle was 2-for-4 with a double.
Key inning:  The sixth.  In a 2-2 tie, Eduardo Escobar led off with a single, took second on a bunt, and scored on a Pedro Florimon single to give the Red Wings a 3-2 lead.  The IronPigs came back with three in the bottom of the inning.  Three singles tied the score, an error put Lehigh Valley ahead, and a Valle double gave the IronPigs an insurance run.

BELOIT 3, PEORIA 2 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a home run, his twenty-fourth.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his ninth in seventy-two Midwest League at-bats.
Pitching star:  Matt Tomshaw worked seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks.
Opposition stars:  Jorge Soler was 2-for-3 with a double.  Yao-Lin Wang pitched six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk.
Key inning:  The eighth.  The Snappers led 2-0.  The Chiefs tied the score on a double, an error, and a pair of sacrifices.  In the bottom of the inning, a single and an error put runners on first and second with none out, but a fly-ball double play made it two out with just a runner on second.  Sano singled to put runners on first and third, Vargas was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Drew Leachman drew a walk to give Beloit the lead.

DSL TWINS 2, WHITE SOX 1 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Luis Gonzalez and Gabriel A. Ynfante were each 3-for-4.
Pitching star:  Starter Miguel Gonzalez allowed no hits and no walks in four shutout innings.  Jose Ramirez struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Evandert Diaz worked five shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.  Roger Ramos was 2-for-3.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The score was tied at one.  Gonzalez led off the inning with a single, took second on a ground out, and scored on a game-ending single by Ynfante.
