Games of August 12


ROCHESTER 10, LEHIGH VALLEY 0 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Batting stars:  Chris Parmelee was 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, and two home runs, giving him fifteen.  He scored three times and drove in four.  Matt Carson was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, his thirteenth.  Clete Thomas was 2-for-4 with a home run, his twelfth.
Pitching stars:  Liam Hendriks worked seven strong innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  Caleb Thielbar struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing two hits.
Opposition star:  Andres Blanco was 3-for-3.
Key inning:  The third.  The Red Wings led 2-0 on Parmelee’s first-inning homer.  Parmelee drew a two-out walk which was followed by back-to-back homers by Carson and Thomas to give Rochester a lead that would never be threatened.

READING 8, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Daniel Rohlfing was 3-for-4.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4.  Chris Colabello was 1-for-2 with two walks.
Pitching star:  Aaron Thompson threw two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Steven Lerud was 3-for-3 with a walk.  Cody Asche was 2-for-5 with two doubles, driving in three.  Trevor May struck out eight in six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The Rock Cats had cut a 4-0 lead to 4-3 when the Phillies scored four times to put the game out of reach.  A single, a walk, and an error loaded the bases.  Asche then doubled and ended up circling the bases on a throwing error by Oswaldo Arcia, giving Reading an 8-3 advantage.

ST. LUCIE AT FORT MYERS

Rained out.

BELOIT 6, PEORIA 5 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Stephen Wickens was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double, scoring three times.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run (his eighth), driving in three.
Pitching star:  Corey Kimes allowed a run on three hits in 3.1 innings.
Opposition stars:  Wes Darvill was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Zeke DeVoss was 2-for-4 with a walk.
Key inning:  The sixth.  In a 5-5 tie, the Chiefs put runners on first and third with none out and did not score.  In the bottom of the inning Wickens doubled, went to third on a bunt, and scored on an Adam Pettersen sacrifice fly to give the Snappers the lead.
Other:  Miguel Sano was ejected in the third inning after being called out on strikes.

ELIZABETHTON 3, BRISTOL 1 IN BRISTOL

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum and Adam Walker were each 3-for-5.  Max Kepler was 2-for-5.
Pitching star:  Hein Robb struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up just one hit.
Opposition stars:  Todd Kibby struck out six in six shutout innings, allowing four hits.
Key inning:  The ninth.  Trailing 3-0, the White Sox used two walks and a single to cut the lead to 3-1 and put the tying run on base with one out.  J. T. Chargois then buckled down to strike out the next two batters and end the game.
Other:  Chargois worked two innings.  Five of the six outs he recorded were strikeouts.
