Games of August 2


ROCHESTER 4, TOLEDO 1 IN TOLEDO

Batting stars:  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-5 with a home run, his tenth.  Rene Rivera was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Brian Dinkelman was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars:  Liam Hendriks struck out seven in seven innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.  Kyle Waldrop allowed one hit in two shutout innings.
Opposition star:  Andy Dirks was 2-for-4 with a double.
Key inning:  The second.  It was a scoreless tie.  Chris Parmelee ignited a rally with a solo homer to lead off the inning.  Clete Thomas singled and stole second.  With two out, consecutive singles by Ray Chang, Rivera, and Tsuyoshi Nishioka put the Red Wings ahead 3-0.

BOWIE 5, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN BOWIE

Batting stars:  Deibinson Romero was 3-for-3 with a walk.  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his sixteenth.  Daniel Rohlfing was 2-for-4 with a double.
Pitching star:  Dakota Watts gave up two hits in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars:  Caleb Joseph was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Robbie Widlansky was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Key inning:  The third.  The Baysox led 1-0.  Schoop led off the inning with a homer.  A pair of walks followed, but a double play made it look as if the Rock Cats might get out of the inning.  Then, however, came another walk, followed by a two-run single by Buck Britton to put Bowie ahead 4-0.
Other:  Saturday’s game in New Britain will feature a special appearance by Ellis Burks.

DAYTONA 8, FORT MYERS 2 IN DAYTONA

Batting stars:  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his tenth.  Daniel Rams was 0-for-1 but walked three times.
Pitching star:  Ricky Bowen allowed one hit in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars:  Christian Villaneuva was 2-for-3 with a walk and two home runs.  Ronald Torreyes was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, driving in three.  Ryan Searle struck out five in 3.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.
Key inning:  The third.  In a 1-1 tie, the Cubs scored three times.  With two out and a runner on second, Torreyes and Villaneuva hit back-to-back homers to give Daytona a 4-1 advantage.

KANE COUNTY 7, BELOIT 5 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Kennys Vargas was 3-for-5.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5 with a double.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks.
Pitching stars:  Steven Gruver worked three shutout innings, allowing just one hit.
Opposition stars:  Tim Ferguson was 3-for-4.  Alex Llanos was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored three times.  Starter Edwin Carl pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.
Key inning:  The ninth.  The Snappers trailed 7-1.  They opened the inning with two walks and a single, loading the bases.  After a strikeout, Rosario singled in two.  Sano then walked to re-load the bases.  Vargas then singled in two to put the tying run on base with one out, but the next two batters flied out to end the game.

BURLINGTON 15, ELIZABETHTON 5 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum was 3-for-5.  Jhonatan Arias was 2-for-4 with a double.  Adam Walker hit a home run, his ninth.
Pitching star:  Andrew Ferreira struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings despite allowing three hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Mark Threlkeld was 4-for-6 with a double and a home run, driving in five.  Patrick Leonard was 4-for-7 with a double and a triple.  Humberto Arteaga was 3-for-7 with a double and a home run.
Key inning:  The fifth.  Leading 3-2, the Royals scored five times.  Two singles and a two-run double by Threlkeld made it 5-2.  Adrian Morales’ RBI single made it 6-2, and a two-run homer by Arteaga capped off the inning.
Other:  Burlington had twenty-seven hits and stranded seventeen runners.  You know it was a big offensive day when Morales went 4-for-6 and wasn’t even one of the stars of the game.

GCL ORIOLES 8, TWINS 0 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Bryan Santy was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Javier Pimentel doubled in his only plate appearance.
Pitching star:  Hung Yi Chen struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars:  Elias Pinales allowed only one hit and one walk in six shutout innings.  Raymond Hunnicutt was 1-for-3 with two walks and a home run.  Steel Russell was 2-for-4.
Key inning:  The seventh.  Leading 1-0, the Orioles scored five times.  Two errors and a single produced the first two runs.  A hit batsman set up a three-run homer by Hunnicutt to give the Orioles a 6-0 lead.

DSL TWINS 7, ROCKIES 5 AT ROCKIES

Batting stars:  Eddy Concepcion was 3-for-5 with a home run, his second.  Ernesto Ciprian was 2-for-4.
Pitching star:  Ezequiel Zarzuela gave up only one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings.
Opposition stars:  Marcos Derkes was 2-for-5 and drove in three.  Carlos Estevez allowed one run in five innings.  Huascar Brazoban worked 2.2 scoreless innings.
Key inning:  The sixth.  The Twins trailed 2-1.  Ciprian walked and went to third on Concepcion’s single.  A ground out tied the score and an error put runners on first and third again.  Francis Mateo singled to put the Twins in front.  Another single loaded the bases, and a two-run double by Jorge Andrade gave the Twins a 5-2 lead.
Other:  Four of the Rockies’ runs were unearned, thanks to three Twins errors.
