Games of May 31


CHARLOTTE 5, ROCHESTER 1 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting star:  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Pitching star:  Brendan Wise worked 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit.
Opposition stars:  Jordan Danks was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Matt Zaleski struck out six in six shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks.  Duente Heath struck out two in two shutout innings.
Key inning:  The eighth.  Already ahead 2-0, the Knights scored three times to put the game out of reach.  Two errors, a single, and a two run triple by Greg Golson produced the runs.
Other:  Matt Maloney started and had a rather odd line:  4.2 innings, 10 hits, 2 runs (both earned), 1 walk, 7 strikeouts.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 6, NEW BRITAIN 5 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Batting star:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-5 with a double and a grand slam (his ninth homer), driving in sixth.
Pitching star:  Andrew Albers surrendered only one run on five hits and no walks in six innings.
Opposition stars:  Ryan Goins was 3-for-5 with two doubles.  Brad Glenn was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.
Key inning:  The eighth.  Trailing 6-3, the Fisher Cats scored once and loaded the bases with two out, but Caleb Thielbar came in to strike out Justin Jackson and end the inning.  New Hampshire scored once more in the ninth, but never got the tying run past first base.

BRADENTON 2, FORT MYERS 1 IN BRADENTON (10 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Andy Leer doubled for the only Miracle extra base hit.
Pitching stars:  Cole Nelson struck out five in four shutout innings, yielding two hits and a walk.  Edgar Ibarra struck out four in three innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Hunter Strickland worked six innings, allowing only an unearned run on seven hits and a walk.  Porfirio Lopez surrendered only a walk in two shutout innings.
Key inning:  The tenth.  With the score tied at one, the Marauders used three walks to load the bases with two out.  Alex Dickerson then singled in the winning run.
Other:  The promotion in Fort Myers tonight is the Zooperstars, featuring Clammy Sosa, Harry Canary, and their Zooperstar friends.

BELOIT 8, QUAD CITIES 1 IN QUAD CITIES

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5 with a home run, his sixth.  Adam Bryant was 2-for-5 and drove in two.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-2 with a double and three walks.
Pitching star:  Steven Gruver pitched 8.1 innings, yielding only one run on five hits and no walks while striking out seven.
Opposition star:  Virgil Hill hit a home run, his third.
Key inning:  The third.  With the score tied at one, Adam Pettersen led off with a single and Rosario followed with a two run homer.  The Snapper lead was never threatened after that.
Other:  Despite hitting just .247, Sano now has an OBP of .361.
