Dominican League: Game of January 23


Escogido uses errors and a balk to get the lead and hold on, getting its first win of the series.

ESCOGIDO 6, LICEY 5 IN LICEY

Escogido:  Carlos Santana (Cleveland) was 1-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and three RBIs.  Jesus Feliciano was 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.  Evan Maclane pitched 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
Licey: Juan Francisco (Milwaukee) was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Engel Beltre (Texas) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Juan Sosa (Miami) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and one walk with one strikeout.
The game:  Two errors, a balk, and an RBI single by Feliciano gave Escogido a 3-0 lead in the first.  Francisco homered in the second to cut the lead to 3-1, but Escogido got two more in the third on Santana's two-run homer to make it 5-1.  Each team scored once in the sixth, leaving the score 6-2.  Licey then came back, getting two in the seventh on Beltre's two-run single and one in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to cut the margin to 6-5.  The tying run was on second with two out, but a ground out ended the inning and LIcey went down in order in the ninth.

PLAYOFF SERIES

Licey leads the best-of-nine series three games to one.
