Australian League: Games of January 10

Not much drama.  Allan de San Miguel hit a key home run.

PERTH 6, BRISBANE 1 IN PERTH

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 0-for-1 with two walks.

Brisbane:  Brad Dutton was 2-for-3 with a run.

Perth:  Matt Kennelly (Atlanta) was 3-for-4 with a run.  Brandon Tripp was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his eighth.  Anthony Claggett pitched five innings, allowing one run on one hit and five walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Brisbane got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the third on a force out.  Perth took the lead in the bottom of the third, getting RBI singles from Joey Wong (Colorado) and Tucker Nathans (Baltimore) to go ahead 2-1.  It stayed 2-1 until the sixth, when Allan de San Miguel hit a three-run homer to make it 5-1.  Tripp homered in the seventh to make it 6-1.

CANBERRA 10, SYDNEY 0 IN SYDNEY

Twins:  Josh Guyer (Sydney) struck out five in five innings of relief, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.

Canberra:  Jack Murphy (Toronto) was 5-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.  Casey Frawley was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run (his fifth), scoring twice.  Ethan Cole pitched six innings, giving up two hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Sydney:  Zach Shepherd was 1-for-3 with a double.  Keon Broxton (Arizona) was 1-for-3 with a walk.

The game:  Canberra scored six in the first to put this one out of reach early.  They batted ten in the inning.  Murphy singled in one, there was a bases-loaded hit batsman, a bases-loaded walk, and a three-run double by Aaron Sloan.  Sydney never threatened to get back into the game.

MELBOURNE 7, ADELAIDE 3 IN ADELAIDE

Melbourne:  Jarryd Rogers was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Ryan Casteel (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  John Hussey (San Diego) struck out nine in 7.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.

Adelaide:  Josh Cakebread was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Stefan Welch (Boston) was 1-for-4 with a home run.  James Campbell (Dodgers) pitched 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  There was no score until the fifth, when Melbourne scored once on a double play.  It stayed 1-0 until the eighth, when Tyler Massey (Colorado) hit a three-run homer and Casteel had an RBI triple to make the score 5-0.  Adelaide never got closer than four runs after that.
