LICEY 1, ESCOGIDO 0 IN ESCOGIDO

Licey:  Lew Ford was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Esmil Rogers (Toronto) struck out five in 5.2 innings, giving up four hits and two walks.

Escogido:  Carlos Santana (Cleveland) was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Julio Lugo was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Chris Leroux pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  There was not even a threat to score until the fourth, when Escogido put men on first and third with one out.  A pop fly into short right field ended the inning when the runner from third tried to tag up and score and was thrown out.  Escogido put men on first and second with two out in the sixth, but a fly out ended the threat.  Licey got a man to third with two out in the seventh on a single and two ground outs, but a popup ended the inning.  Licey got two singles and a walk in the eighth with one out, but one man was thrown out on the bases and a ground out left the game scoreless.  In the bottom of the eighth, a single and a walk put men on first and second with two out for Escogido.  The next batter singled, but the runner from second was thrown out at the plate and there was still no score.  In the top of the ninth, Erick Aybar was hit by a pitch and stole second.  With two out, Lew Ford doubled to bring home the game's only run.  Escogido did not get a man past first in the bottom of the ninth.
