Australian League: Games of January 11


Missed opportunities for Brisbane.  A big inning carries Sydney.

PERTH 2, BRISBANE 1 IN PERTH

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Brisbane:  Steven Greer was 2-for-4.  Joey Rickard (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-5.  Ryan Searle (Cubs) pitched a complete game, striking out eleven while giving up two runs on ten hits and no walks.
Perth:  Tim Kennelly (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.  Brandon Tripp was 2-for-4 with a double.  Daniel Schmidt pitched six innings, allowing one run on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
The game:  Perth opened the scoring in the third on Kennelly's RBI double.  Wade singled in a run in the fifth to tie it up, but Kennelly doubled in another run in the bottom of the fifth to put Perth ahead 2-1.  Perth had men on first and second in the sixth and loaded the bases in the eighth but could not score.

SYDNEY 9, CANBERRA 6 IN SYDNEY

Canberra:  Robbie Perkins (Colorado) was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Mike Crouse (Toronto) was 2-for-5 with a home run, his seventh.  Jeremy Barnes was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.
Sydney:  Mitch Dening was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jacob May (White Sox) was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Zach Shepherd was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.
The game:  Jack Murphy (Toronto) singled in two in the first to put Canberra ahead 2-0.  Dening singled in a run in the bottom of the first, but Canberra got two more in the second on a Jon Berti (Toronto) RBI single and a sacrifice fly.  Guy Edmonds homered in the bottom of the second to make it 4-2.  Canberra led 5-3 after four and a half, but in the bottom of the fifth Sydney scored five times to take control of the game.  Trent D'Antonio (Miami) singled in one, Shepherd drove in two with a single, one scored on an error, and one scored on a force out.  Canberra never got closer than three runs.

ADELAIDE 8, MELBOURNE 2 IN ADELAIDE

Melbourne:  Brad Harman was 2-for-3 with a double.  Justin Trapp (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Josh Davies was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.
Adelaide:  Joe Sclafani (Houston) was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs.  Stefan Welch (Boston) was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in two.  Darren Fidge pitched six innings. allowing two runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
The game:  An error scored two for Adelaide in the first inning.  It stayed 2-0 until the fourth, when Davies doubled in a run to make it 2-1.  Melbourne tied it at two in the fifth on a sacrifice fly.  In the sixth, Bryan Wiley doubled in two and Chris Jacobs (Dodgers) had an RBI single to put Adelaide in the lead at 5-2.  Adelaide scored three more in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
