Games of June 14


A sweep for the Twins!  Josmil Pinto hits a grand slam!  Two walkoff wins!

ROCHESTER 11, LEHIGH VALLEY 1 IN ROCHESTER<?h4>

Batting stars:  Josmil Pinto was 2-for-5 with a grand slam and two runs.  Deibinson Romero was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Wilkin Ramirez was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching stars:  Logan Darnell pitched five innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts.  A. J. Achter struck out three in three innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Aaron Thompson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Leandro Castro was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk.  Tyler Henson was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Shawn Camp struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.
The game:  Two walks and an error helped Rochester get two runs in the first.  A walk, a single, and a hit batsman preceded a Pinto grand slam in the second to make the score 6-0.  Lehigh Valley got on the board with a run in the third, but the Red Wings got a three-run homer from Chris Rahl in the fifth to go up 9-1 and put the game away.
Of note:  Eric Farris was 0-for-5.  Chris Colabello was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Pedro Florimon was 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

NEW BRITAIN 3, TRENTON 2 IN NEW BRITAIN (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a home run, his ninth.  Brandon Waring was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Nate Hanson was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
Pitching stars:  Virgil Vasquez struck out six in six innings, giving up a run on four hits and three walks.  Adrian Salcedo pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and two walks with one strikeout.  Cole Johnson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Casey Stevenson was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.  Manny Banuelos started and struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.  Zach Nuding struck out five in 4.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.
The game:  Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Rodriguez homered in the fourth to tie it up.  Taylor Dugas tripled and scored in the eighth to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead, and that's where things stood when the game was suspended in the bottom of the eighth.  When play resumed, it stayed 2-1 until the bottom of the ninth.  With one out, New Britain loaded the bases on two walks and a single.  Waring then delivered a two-run single to win the game for the Rock Cats.
Of note:  Tony Thomas was 0-for-4.  Eddie Rosario was 0-for-4.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.

NEW BRITAIN 4, TRENTON 3 IN NEW BRITAIN (REGULARLY SCHEDULED GAME)

Batting stars:  Mike Kvasnicka was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eleventh.  Jairo Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a run.
Pitching star:  Pat Dean pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Peter O'Brien was 2-for-4 with a home run, his thirteenth.  Rob Segedin was 1-for-3 with a walk.
The game:  O'Brien's homer opened the scoring in the fourth, putting Trenton up 1-0.  Vargas homered in the sixth to tie it at one.  In the seventh, RBI singles by Nate Hanson and Brad Boyer gave New Britain a 3-1 lead.  Each team scored once in the eighth to make it 4-2.  Tyler Austin tripled in the ninth and scored on a Taylor Dugas single to cut the lead to 4-3 and put the tying run on base, but Dugas did not advance past first.
Of note:  Boyer was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Eddie Rosario was 1-for-4.

FSL NORTH 6, FSL SOUTH 4 (FLORIDA STATE LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME)

Twins:  Adam Brett Walker II was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run.  Jose Berrios started and struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.
The game:  Walker II homered in the sixth to give the South a 3-2 lead, and a bases-loaded walk later in the inning made it 4-2 South.  The lead held until the ninth, when the North scored four times.  Marco Hernandez singled in the tying run and Gioskar Amaya hit a two-run double to put the North in front.  The South went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, BURLINGTON 6 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Ryan Walker was 3-for-4 with two triples, scoring once and driving in two.  Chad Christensen was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, his sixth.  Engelb Vielma was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Pitching star:  Kohl Stewart pitched four shutout innings, giving up six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Eric Aguilera was 3-for-3 with a walk, a triple, and a home run (his ninth), scoring twice and driving in three.  Mike Fish was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his sixth), scoring twice.  Ranyelmy Mendoza was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.
The game:  A Walker triple was followed by three singles, leading to three second inning runs for Cedar Rapids.  Walker singled in a run in the fourth and Christensen hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Kernels a seemingly comfortable 6-0 lead.  In the seventh, however, Aguilera hit a two-run triple and scored on a Brandon Bayardi single to cut the lead to 6-3.  Mendoza doubled and scored in the eighth to make it 6-4 and back-to-back homers by Fish and Aguilera tied it in the ninth.  In the bottom of the ninth, Mitch Garver walked, Bryan Haar singled, and Jason Kanzler delivered a bunt-single-plus error to win the game.
Of note:  Zack Granite returned to the lineup and was 1-for-5.  Garver was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.

DSL TWINS 13, DSL WHITE SOX 7 AT WHITE SOX

Batting stars:  Jorge Andrade was 5-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs.  Antonio Tovar was 2-for-5 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in four.  Emmanuel Morel was 3-for-5 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in one.
Pitching star:  Robener Cabrera struck out eight in six innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks.
Opposition stars:  Carlos Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.  Jhoan Quijada pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks with one strikeout.
The game:  A two-run Tovar triple in the second put the Twins ahead 5-1.  Carlos Mejia tripled and scored in the bottom of the second and the White Sox got two more in the third to cut the lead to 5-4.  It stayed there until the seventh, when each team scored twice to make it 7-6.  In the eighth, Jhan De Jesus doubled and scored on a Jose Reyes single to tie it at seven apiece.  The Twins then came up with six runs in the ninth.  Two runs scored on bases-loaded walks, Morel had an RBI single, Andrade had a two-run single, and a sacrifice fly plated the sixth run.
Of note:  Carlos Martinez was 1-for-4 with two walks and a run.
