Games of June 13


No clutch hits in Rochester.  No result yet in New Britain.  A near no-hitter for the DSL Twins!

LEHIGH VALLEY 3, ROCHESTER 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Pedro Florimon was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Chris Herrmann was 2-forr-4.  Deibinson Romero was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching stars:  Scott Diamond struck out three in three shutout innings of relief, giving up no hits and one walk.  Deolis Guerra struck out two in two perfect innings.  Edgar Ibarra pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Leandro Castro was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Steve Susdorf was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Brad Lincoln struck out five in five shutout innings, allowing six hits and three walks.
The game:  Lehigh Valley scored all three runs in the second inning, as Castro tripled in two runs and scored on a Susdorf single.  Rochester had men on base all night, leaving the bases loaded in the second and fifth and leaving men on second and third in the second.  For the game, the Red Wings went 0-for-10 with men in scoring position and stranded fourteen runners.
Of note:  Eric Farris was 1-for-5.  Brad Nelson was 1-for-3.  Chris Colabello was 0-for-2.  Starter Alex Meyer pitched only two innings, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.

TRENTON 2, NEW BRITAIN 1 IN NEW BRITAIN (NOT FINAL--GAME SUSPENDED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE EIGHTH)

The game will be completed today, so we'll give you more details tomorrow.  Trenton went ahead in the top of the eighth when Taylor Dugas tripled and scored.  New Britain has two out with a man on second in the bottom of the eighth.  Virgil Vasquez struck out six in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks.  Reynaldo Rodriguez homered for the only Rock Cats run.

FORT MYERS MIRACLE

No game scheduled.

BURLINGTON 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Ryan Walker was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Tanner Vavra was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Jason Kanzler was 1-for-4 with a home run, his seventh.
Pitching star:  Todd Van Steensel struck out three in two perfect innings.
Opposition stars:  Eric Aguilera was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his eighth) and two runs.  Mike Fish was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Brian Loconsole struck out five in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk.
The game:  Mitch Garver singled in a run in the first and Cedar Rapids got another in the third to go ahead 2-0.  Each team scored twice in the fourth to make it 4-2.  Aguilera's two-run homer in the fifth tied it at four, but Bryan Haar doubled in Garver in the bottom of the fifth to put the Kernels back up 5-4.  In the sixth, Fish hit a two-run double to give Burlington a 6-5 lead.  The Cedar Rapids offense dried up after that, as they got only one hit after the fifth inning.
Of note:  Chad Christensen was 0-for-5 with an RBI.  Garver was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Starter Lewis Thorpe pitched four innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks with one strikeout.

DSL TWINS 2, DSL ORIOLES1 0 AT ORIOLES1

Batting stars:  Antonio Tovar was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 with a double.
Pitching stars:  Williams Ramirez struck out seven in five innings, giving up no hits and four walks.  Carlos Aponte pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits and four walks with one strikeout.  Argenis Silva pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Wendell Floranus pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Jean Carrillo was 1-for-2 with two walks.
The game:  There was no score until the sixth, when Luis Martinez was hit by a pitch, took third on a stolen base-plus-error, and scored on a Tovar single.  In the seventh, Jermaine Mitchell singled, stole second, and scored on an error.  And that was it for the scoring.  The Orioles1 drew eight walks, but did not get a hit until two were out in the ninth, when Carrillo got a line drive single to right.

The Fort Myers Miracle has no game scheduled because the Florida State League all-star game will be played tonight.  Miracle players on the team are Jose BerriosDavid HurlbutBrett Lee, and Adam Brett Walker II.  Unfortunately, Hurlbut is currently on the disabled list.
