Games of June 12


Yohan Pino continues to dominate.  Josmil Pinto makes his season debut in Rochester.  Mitch Garver leads the Kernels to victory.

ROCHESTER 4, LEHIGH VALLEY 0 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Batting stars:  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Eric Farris was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Yohan Pino struck out nine in seven innings, giving up two hits and three walks.  Ryan Pressly struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  None.
The game:  Beresford tripled in a run and scored on a Deibinson Romero single to give Rochester a 2-0 lead in the third.  In the fifth, Pedro Florimon singled, stole second, and scored on a Beresford single to make it 3-0.  Farris singled in the final run in the seventh.  The only time Lehigh Valley got a man to third was in the fifth, when a single, a wild pitch, and a ground out put Andres Blanco there with two out.  A strikeout ended the inning.
Of note:  Romero was 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Chris Colabello was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-4.  Pedro Florimon was 1-for-3 with a run.

CHARLOTTE 8, FORT MYERS 7 IN FORT MYERS (11 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Tyler Grimes was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-4 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with two walks and a run.
Pitching star:  Mason Melotakis struck out four in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Luke Bailey was 3-for-5 with a home run, scoring three times and driving in three.  Julian Ridings was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.  Justin O'Conner was 3-for-6 with a triple and two runs.
The game:  It was close all the way.  Each team scored twice in the second.  Josh Sale doubled in a run to give Charlotte a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but a two-run error put Fort Myers in front 4-3 after four.  Each team scored twice in the sixth to leave the Miracle ahead 6-5.  It stayed that way until the ninth, when Ridings led off with a home run to tie it up.  In the eleventh, Thomas Coyle delivered an RBI triple and scored on a Leonardo Reginatto single to give the Stone Crabs an 8-6 lead.  Walker II singled in a run in the bottom of the eleventh, putting the tying run on third and the winning run on first with two out, but a strikeout ended the game.
Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Stephen Wickens was 1-for-6 with an RBI.  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-5 with a run.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, QUAD CITIES 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Mitch Garver was 2-for-3 with two double, scoring once and driving in two.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
Pitching stars:  Ryan Eades pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on nine hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Alex Muren struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.
Opposition stars:  Tyler White was 2-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Brian Holberton was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Jose Fernandez was 2-for-3.
The game:  Garver doubled and scored on a Jason Kanzler single to give Cedar Rapids a 1-0 lead in the second.  In the third, three walks, a sacrifice fly, and a two-run Garver double made it 4-0.  Quad Cities got both of their runs in the fourth when White tripled in a run and scored on Holberton's single.  The River Bandits never got the tying run on base.  The final Kernel run came in the eighth on a hit batsman and three walks.
Of note:  Chad Christensen was 0-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

DSL ORIOLES1 1, DSL TWINS 0

Batting stars:  Jorge Andrade was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Carlos Martinez was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching stars:  Luis Hernandez struck out four in four innings, giving up a run on two hits and three walks.  Jose Martinez struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.  Randolph Perez pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars:  Rauel Acosta was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Francisco Jimenez struck out six in five innings, allowing five hits and two walks.  Barry Jhonson struck out two in 2.1 innings, allowing a walk.
The game:  The only run of the game came in the third on a walk, a hit batsman, a wild pitch, and Acosta's single.  The biggest Twins threat came in the first inning, when Andrade tripled with one out, but a foul pop and a ground out ended the threat.  The Twins also loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but the next two batters fanned.
Of note:  Emmanuel Morel was 0-for-3.  Roni Tapia was 1-for-4.  Lewin Diaz was 1-for-3.
