Games of May 13


SYRACUSE 4, ROCHESTER 2 IN SYRACUSE

Batting stars:  Ben Revere and Clete Thomas were each 2-for-4.
Pitching star:  Liam Hendriks allowed just one run on three hits and two walks in six innings.
Opposition stars:  Zach Duke worked seven innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits.  Josh Wilkie went two shutout innings.
Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 2-1, the Chiefs’ Jim Negrych homered to tie the score.  This ignited a three-run rally, as a single and two walks loaded the bases and an Aaron Bates error allowed two runs to score.
Other:  The Red Wings have lost five consecutive games.

READING 6, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Chris Herrmann hit a home run, his fourth.  James Beresford was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice.
Pitching star:  Bobby Lanigan worked 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars:  Troy Hanzawa was 3-for-4 with a triple, driving in three.  Jiwan James was 3-for-4 with a double.  Julio Rodriguez allowed an unearned run on one hit and five walks in six innings.
Key inning:  The eighth.  Leading 4-3, the Phillies used two doubles and two singles to score twice.  Herrmann’s homer in the bottom of the inning brought the Rock Cats back to within two, but that was as close as they got.

BELOIT 3, CLINTON 1 IN BELOIT

Batting star:  Miguel Sano hit a three run homer, one of four Snapper hits.
Pitching star:  Matthew Tomshaw struck out six in six innings, giving up three hits and walking one.
Opposition stars:  Matthew Paolini was 2-for-4.  Kyle Hunter struck out three in three perfect innings.
Key inning:  The third.  With one out, Wang-wei Lin and JaDamion Williams hit back-to-back singles.  Sano then hit a three run homer, accounting for all of the Snapper runs.
