Games of May 11


SYRACUSE 8, ROCHESTER 2 IN SYRACUSE

Batting stars:  J. R. Towles was 2-for-3 with a double.  Ben Revere was 2-for-4.
Pitching star:  Brendan Wise gave up a run on four hits and a walk in three innings.
Opposition stars:  Xavier Paul was 3-for-5 with a triple and a home run, driving in four.  John Lannan went eight innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks.
Key inning:  The fifth.  Already ahead 4-2, the Chiefs put together four singles and two walks to score three runs and put the game out of reach.

NEW BRITAIN 4, READING 1 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting star:  Wilkin Ramirez hit his third home run in three days.
Pitching stars:  David Bromberg gave up only one hit in six innings, striking out seven and walking four.  Lester Oliveros worked two perfect innings.
Opposition star:  Trevor May pitched 6.1 no-hit innings, but walked four and hit two, taking the loss.
Key inning:  The eighth.  Leading 1-0, Ramirez started the inning with a homer.  Aaron Hicks walked and Chris Herrmann doubled.  Chris Colabellowas walked intentionally to load the bases.  Deibinson Romero walked to force in a run, and a wild pitch brought home another run to make the score 4-0.
Other:  The teams combined for five hits, three for New Britain and two for Reading.

DUNEDIN 8, FORT MYERS 5 IN DUNEDIN

Batting star:  Josmil Pinto was 3-for-4 with a home run, his third.
Pitching star:  Jose Gonzalez worked 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out three while giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Jon Talley and Kevin Ahrens were each 2-for-4.  Oliver Dominguez doubled and drove in three.
Key inning:  The eighth.  Trailing 6-3, Jairo Perez singled and Pinto hit a two run homer to cut the lead to 6-5.  A pair of singles put runners on first and third with two out, but Levi Michael grounded out to end the inning.  In the bottom of the inning, the Blue Jays took advantage of a strikeout/wild pitch, a triple, and another wild pitch to regain a three run lead.

PEORIA 6, BELOIT 2 IN PEORIA

Batting stars:  Jonathan Goncalves was 2-for-3.  Wang-wei Lin was 2-for-5.  Jairo Rodriguez hit his first home run.
Pitching star:  Ryan O’Rourke struck out three in two perfect innings.
Opposition stars:  Marco Hernandez and Yaniel Cabezas were each 3-for-4.  Michael Jensen gave up one run on five hits and a walk in 5.2 innings.
Key inning:  The first.  After the Snappers went down in order in the top of the inning, the Chiefs scored five times.  A single, a walk, a double, three more singles, and an error led to the damage.
