A huge day for Kennys Vargas. Max Kepler gets it going. We're nearly caught up.

ROCHESTER 4, NORFOLK 2 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars: James Beresford was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored once. Eduardo Escobar was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Logan Darnell struck out eight in seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. Michael Tonkin struck out all four batters he faced, two by strikeout.
Opposition stars: Chris Snyder was 2-for-3 with a home run. Daniel McCutchen struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks.
Key inning: The fifth. The Red Wings led 2-1. Beresford led off the inning with a triple. Antoan Richardson drew a one-out walk. Escobar singled in an insurance run, and a double steal and a sacrifice fly brought home another to make it 4-1.
Prospect watch: Chris Parmelee was 0-for-3 with an RBI. Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

READING 12, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN READING

Batting stars: Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Danny Santana was 2-for-5 and scored once. Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-5.
Pitching stars: Ryan O'Rourke pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout. B. J. Hermsen pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars: Tyler Henson was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two. Maikel Franco was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in one. Anthony Hewitt was 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs.
Key inning: The fifth. Leading 3-1, the Fightin Phils scored five. A double, a single, and a hit batsman loaded the bases with none out. An error scored two runs, and RBI singles by Henson, Hewitt, and Albert Cartwright made it 8-1.
Prospect watch: Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4 and scored once. Nate Hanson was 0-for-2 with two walks.

FORT MYERS 12, CLEARWATER 11 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars: Kennys Vargas was 2-for-3 with three walks and two home runs (his sixteenth and seventeenth), scoring three times and driving in six. J. D. Williams was 3-for-5 with a walk and scored three times. Mike Kvasnicka was 2-for-5 with a walk and two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.
Pitching stars: Steven Gruver pitched three innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with two strikeouts. Corey Williams pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Chris Serritella was 2-for-4 with a walk and a three-run homer, scoring twice. Cameron Perkins was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two. Aaron Altherr was 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in one.
Key inning: The ninth. The Threshers trailed 11-9. A hit batsman, a walk, and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with one out. A sacrifice fly made it 11-10, and a triple by Harold Martinez tied the score. In the bottom of the ninth, a single and two walks loaded the bases with one out and an error allowed the winning run to score.
Prospect watch: Byron Buxton was 0-for-5 with a walk and scored once. Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with two walks and scored twice.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, CLINTON 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars: Max Kepler was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his fifth), scoring twice and driving in two. Jorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching stars: Tim Atherton struck out eight in six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks. Hudson Boyd pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk. Brian Gilbert pitched a perfect inning.
Opposition stars: Taylor Ard was 1-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Charles Kaahekahi pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Key inning: The seventh. The Kernels trailed 2-1. Kepler led off with a walk and scored on a one-out double by Tyler Grimes. Jeremias Pineda then delivered an RBI single to put Cedar Rapids in the lead.
Prospect watch: Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

ELIZABETHTON 8, JOHNSON CITY 0 IN JOHNSON CITY

Batting stars: Bryan Haar was 3-for-5 with three doubles and scored once. Rory Rhodes was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two. Javier Pimentel was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Randy Rosario struck out nine in seven innings, giving up six hits and no walks. Kuo Hua Lo pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout. C. K. Irby struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and no walks.
Opposition stars: J. J. Altobelli was 2-for-4 with a double. Anderson Gerdel gave up one run on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts in three innings.
Key inning: The second. It was a scoreless tie. Mitch Garver and Jake Proctor opened the inning with back-to-back doubles to put the Twins on the board. Pimentel and Ryan Walker followed with singles to make it 2-0 Elizabethton.
Prospect watch: Zach Granite was 0-for-5. Dereck Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.

GCL TWINS AT GCL RED SOX

Rained out.

DSL TWINS 3, DSL ORIOLES1 0 AT TWINS

Batting stars: Joel Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice. Dubal Baez was 2-for-3 and scored once. Rainis Silva was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars: Alexis Tapia struck out five in five innings, giving up one hit and one walk. Ramses Herrera pitched three innings, giving up one hit and two walks. Sebastian Perez pitched a perfect inning.
Opposition star: Wendell Floranus pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Key inning: The third. It was a scoreless tie. Singles by Ramirez and Baez put runners on first and third with none out. A wild pitch brought home the first run and a ground out scored another to put the Twins up 2-0.

Prospect watch: Frank Encarnacion was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
