Games of July 2


A solid outing for Tom Stuifbergen. A big day for Amaurys Minier. Catching up is taking longer than I'd hoped, but if you'll hang in there with me, we'll get there.

SYRACUSE 5, ROCHESTER 2 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting starRay Olmedo was 2-for-3 and scored once.
Pitching stars: None.
Opposition stars: Yunesky Maya pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk. Jeff Kobernus was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one. Will Rhymes was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Key inning: The seventh. The Chiefs led 3-2. Back-to-back one-out doubles by Rhymes and Chris Marrero made it 4-2 and another run scored on a sacrifice fly to put the game out of reach.
Prospect” watchAntoan Richardson was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Chris Colabello was 1-for-3. Cole DeVries pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

ROCHESTER 6, SYRACUSE 5 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting starsJames Beresford was 2-for-3 with a double and scored once. Eric Farris was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Deibinson Romero was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and two RBIs.
Pitching starLuis Perdomo retired both batters he faced.
Opposition stars: Corey Brown was 3-for-4 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in two. Chris Marrero was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring once. Jeff Kobernus was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and two RBIs.
Key inning: The seventh. The Chiefs trailed 6-4. Marrero tripled with one out and scored on a Brown single to make it 6-5. Perdomo came in and got a pair of ground outs to end the game.
Prospect” watchAntoan Richardson was 1-for-4. Chris Colabello was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored once. Vance Worley pitched 5.1 innings, giving up four runs on six hits and five walks with two strikeouts.

NEW BRITAIN 3, NEW HAMPSHIRE 1 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starEddie Rosario was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored once.
Pitching starsTom Stuifbergen pitched 6.1 shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out three. Edgar Ibarra struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars: Brian Van Kirk was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Marcus Strohman struck out thirteen in 6.2 innings, but allowed three runs on six hits and a walk.
Key inning: The fourth. It was a scoreless tie. Rosario and Nate Hanson opened the inning with singles, followed by a Josmil Pinto RBI double. Hanson later scored on a ground out to make the score 2-0.
Prospect watchMiguel Sano was 0-for-3.

FORT MYERS 5, BRADENTON 2 IN BRADENTON

Batting starsJhon Goncalves was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double. Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Levi Michael was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.
Pitching starsTyler Duffey pitched seven shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk. Jose Gonzalez pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Jeoly Rodriguez pitched five innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and three walks. Stetson Allie was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in two.
Key inning: The fifth. It was a scoreless tie. The Miracle had two out and none on. An error and a walk put two runners on base. Candido Pimentel and Buxton each delivered RBI singles to make it 2-0.
Prospect watchAderlin Mejia was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Kennys Vargas was 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Mike Kvasnicka was 0-for-4.

BELOIT 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN BELOIT

Batting starsJonathan Murphy was 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice. J. D. Williams was 2-for-4 and scored once.
Pitching starsMadison Boer pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and no walks. Steven Gruver struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars: Renato Nunez was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two. Daniel Robertson was 2-for-4 and scored twice
Key inning: The fifth. The Kernels trailed 3-1. Williams and Murphy singled, putting runners on first and third with one out. A sacrifice fly scored one and Jorge Polanco singled to tie it up. In the bottom of the inning, the Snappers got a pair of singles to put runners on first and third with none out. A passed ball scored the go-ahead run and Nunez singled to bring in an insurance run.
Prospect watchPolanco was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Max Kepler was 1-for-4. Jose Berrios lasted 4.1 innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out six.

GCL ORIOLES 3, GCL TWINS 2 AT ORIOLES (7 INNINGS)

Batting starsAmaurys Minier was 3-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Brian Navarreto was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, driving in one.
Pitching starsSam Gibbons started and pitched three shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks. Lewis Thorpe struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
Opposition stars: Justin Viele was 2-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and a walk, scoring once. Ronarsy Ledesma was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jake Pintar struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.
Key inning: The seventh. The Orioles trailed 2-1. Two singles put runners on first and third with two out. Josh Hart doubled to bring in the tying and winning runs.

DSL TWINS 2, DSL GIANTS 1 AT GIANTS (6 ½ INNINGS, RAIN)

Batting starsFrank Encarnacion was 2-for-3 with a double and scored once. Rafael P. Valera was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars: Starter Johan Quesada struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and no walks. Williams Ramirez struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars: Reymi Rodriguez pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts. Nicol Parra was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored once.
Key inning: The second. A strikeout/wild pitch was followed by a double by Encarnacion, putting runners on second and third with none out. A ground out scored one run and a wild pitch scored another, giving the Twins a 2-0 lead.
