Games of December 16

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Gregorio Petit (Caracas) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Willians Astudillo (Anzoategui) was 0-for-4.
CARACAS 7, LARA 1 IN CARACAS
Ramon Cabrera hit a three-run homer in a five-run fifth that gave Caracas a 6-1 lead.  It was Cabrera's second homer and he had four RBIs in the game.  Jesus Aguilar was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, scoring three times.  Albert Suarez struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on four hits.
ANZOATEGUI 5, ARAGUA 2 IN ANZOATEGUI
Renato Nunez' two-run double gave Anzoategui a 3-2 lead in the fourth and they added two insurance runs in the eighth.  Cesar Valera was 4-for-4.  For Aragua, Rick Teasley pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits and a walk and striking out two.
MAGALLANES 13, LA GUAIRA 1 IN MAGALLANES
A five-run fourth and a six-run sixth carried Magallanes.  Endy Chavez was 4-for-6 with a double.  Jesus Valdez was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Alberth Martinez was 3-for-5 with four RBIs.  Jose Tabata was 3-for-5.  Juan Apodaca was 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs.  Ronny Cedeno had a triple and three RBIs.  For La Guaira, Alonzo Harris was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple.
ZULIA 3, MARGARITA 1 IN ZULIA
Zulia scored on a double play in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie and added an insurance run in the eighth.  Wilfredo Boscan pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks and striking out one.  For Margarita, Bobby Blevens pitched four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

NAVOJOA 6, CULIACAN 2 IN CULIACAN
Navojoa scored three in the first and led all the way.  Jesus Castillo was 4-for-5 with a home run, his tenth.  Paul Leon was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fifth.  Jovan Rosa was 3-for-5.  Fernando Flores was 3-for-4.  Jaime Lugo pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and striking out five.
MEXICALI 4, MAZATLAN 3 IN MAZATLAN (10 INNINGS)
Chris Roberson homered leading off the tenth to provide the decisive run.  Roberson was 3-for-5 with two home runs (his ninth and tenth) and three runs.  For Mazatlan, Jose Aguilar was 3-for-5.  Alejandro Soto struck out six in six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits.
HERMOSILLO 7, JALISCO 5 IN HERMOSILLO
Hermosillo scored two in the fifth to go up 5-3 and added two in the eighth.  Jalisco scored two in the ninth but did not bring the tying run up to bat.  Barry Enright pitched seven innings for Hermosillo, giving up three runs on four hits and striking out three.  For Jalisco, Agustin Murillo was 2-for-4 with a home run (his ninth) and three RBIs.
OBREGON 3, LOS MOCHIS 2 IN LOS MOCHIS (12 INNINGS)
Eduardo Arredondo homered in the ninth to produce the decisive run.  It was 0-0 through eight, then each team scored two in the ninth.  Arredondo was 2-for-5 and the home run was his third.  Emmanuel Avila also homered for Obregon, his third.  Marco Antonio Duarte pitched seven shutout innings, giving up seven hits and a walk and striking out five.  For Los Mochis, Juan Carlos Gamboa was 4-for-5 with a home run, his fourth.  Saul Soto was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, his fourth.  Jonathan Castellanos struck out ten in eight shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Kennys Vargas (Aguilas) was 0-for-2 with two walks.
GIGANTES 5, ESCOGIDO 3 IN ESCOGIDO
Jose Siri's two-run single in the sixth put the Gigantes up 4-3.  Moises Sierra was 2-for-4 with a double.  For Escogido, Nick Additon pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk and striking out three.
LICEY 4, ESTRELLAS 3 AT ESTRELLAS
A bases-loaded walk in the eighth broke a 3-3 tie.  Julio Borbon was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third), a double, and a walk, driving in three.  For the Estrellas, Junior Lake was 0-for-2 with three walks.  Lisalverto Bonilla pitched four innings, giving up an unearned run on six hits and two walks and striking out two.
TOROS 5, AGUILAS 4 AT AGUILAS
The Toros scored four in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead.  The Aguilas had the tying run on third in both the eighth and the ninth.  Eugenio Velez was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in four.  Alexi Casilla was 3-for-5.  Bryan Evans pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and five walks and striking out three.  For the Aguilas, Danny Santana was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Francisley Bueno struck out seven in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on eight hits and a walk.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Aaron Whitefield (Brisbane) was 2-for-8 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 1-for-6 with an RBI.
BRISBANE 7, ADELAIDE 3 IN ADELAIDE (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)
Brisbane scored four in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.  MItch Nilsson was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his sixth.  Hung-Wen Chen struck out seven in five innings, giving up three hits.  Bas Nooij hit a two-run homer for Adelaide.
ADELAIDE 6, BRISBANE 1 IN ADELAIDE (GAME 2)
Rodrigo Ayarza hit a three-run homer in the fifth to give Adelaide a 4-0 lead.  It was Ayarza's third home run of the season.  Greg Mosel struck out eight in seven shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk.
SYDNEY 9, MELBOURNE 5 IN MELBOURNE (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)
Sydney had an eight-run inning in the second.  Chih-Hsien Chiang hit a two-run homer, his sixth.  For Melbourne, Brett Cumberland was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, his third, and Jarryd Dale hit a two-run homer, his second.
SYDNEY 4, MELBOURNE 1 IN MELBOURNE (GAME 2)
Sydney scored three in the sixth to take a 4-0 lead.  Luke Wilkins pitched 6.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and a walk and striking out five.
CANBERRA 11, PERTH 10 IN CANBERRA
It was tied 2-2, 3-3, and 6-6.  Canberra led 8-6 going to the ninth, but Jake Fraley and Luke Hughes each hit a two-run homer to give Perth a 10-8 advantage.  In the bottom of the ninth, however, Boss Moanaroa hit a three-run homer to win it for Canberra.  Moanaroa was 3-for-5 with a double in addition to the home run, his fourth.  Connor Panas was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his fifth and sixth), scoring three times and driving in three.  Kyle Perkins hit a home run, his fourth, and Gabriel Arias hit a home run, his fourth.  For Perth, Michael Brosseau was 4-for-5 with a double and a home run, his fifth.  Tim Kennelly was 3-for-5 and scored three times.  Fraley's home run was his sixth and Hughes' home run was his seventh.
