Games of July 4

Oswaldo Arcia and Tyler Duffey have good games, but it's not enough.  Brett Lee's complete game is not enough either.  Mat Batts has an excellent game, and it is enough.  Zach Tillery goes Batts one (inning) better.  The E-Twins get blown out.  The GCL Twins do the blowing out.  No report from the DSL.

LEHIGH VALLEY 4, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a run.
Pitching star:  Tyler Duffey pitched seven innings, giving up two unearned run on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Aaron Atherr was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Tyler Henson was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Seth Rosen pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
The game:  The IronPigs got two in the fourth to go up 2-0.  The Red Wings responded in the bottom of the third, getting a two-run homer from Arcia in a three-run inning that put them up 3-2.  The lead held up through seven, but in the eighth RBI singles by Altherr and Logan Moore put the IronPigs ahead 4-3.  Rodriguez hit a leadoff single in the eighth but the Red Wings did not put another man on base the rest of the game.
Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4.  Danny Ortiz was 2-for-4.

JACKSONVILLE 3, CHATTANOOGA 0 IN JACKSONVILLE

Batting stars:  Heiker Meneses was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Pitching star:  Brett Lee pitched an eight-inning complete game, giving up three runs on seven hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Kenny Wilson was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Trevor Williams struck out six in six innings, allowing two hits and two walks.
The game:  The Suns opened the game with four singles that produced two runs.  They put together three more singles in the fifth to go up 3-0.  That was it for scoring.  The Lookouts had only two hits and only once got a man as far as second base.
Of note:  Levi Michael was 0-for-4.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.

FORT MYERS 5, ST. LUCIE 3 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Mitch Garver was 1-for-1 with two walks and three runs.  Zach Granite was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring once.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Mat Batts struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Dallas Gallant struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars:  Jeff McNeil was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Victor Cruzado was 2-for-4 with a run.  Colton Plaia was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
The game:  The Miracle got single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth to to up 3-0.  Granite circled the bases on a triple-plus-error as part of a two-run seventh that made it 5-0.  The Mets didn't score until the ninth, but when they did they tallied three times and put the tying run on base before a ground out ended the game.
Of note:  Alex Swim was 1-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, BURLINGTON 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-4 with a double.  Pat Kelly was 1-for-2 with a triple and a run.  T. J. White was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run.
Pitching stars:  Zach Tillery pitched seven shutout innings, giving up five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.  Randy LeBlanc struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars:  Nick Flair was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Tim Arakawa was 1-for-2 with two walks.
The game:  Corcino and Zack Larson each doubled in a two-run first.  Kelly tripled and scored in the fifth.  White tripled and scored in the seventh.  Meanwhile, the biggest Bees threat came in the third inning, when they put men on second and third with two out.  A grounder to first ended the inning.
Of note:  Tanner English was 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4 with a run.  Alex Real was 0-for-3 with an RBI.

GREENEVILLE 10, ELIZABETHTON 3 IN GREENEVILLE

Batting stars:  Manuel Guzman was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Daniel Kihle was 2-for-4 with a run.  Ariel Montesino was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Pitching stars:  Nate Gercken pitched three innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Tyler Stirewalt struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars:  Osvaldo Duarte was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, scoring once and driving in three.  Connor Goedert was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Junior Garcia struck out four in four shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.
The game:  The Astros took control early.  Three walks and a single plated one in the first, Duarte's two-run triple led to a three-run second, Brauly Mejia singled in a run in the third, and a five-run fourth put the game out of reach.  The Twins got one in the eighth and two in the ninth.
Of note:  A. J. Murray was 0-for-4.  Amaurys Minier was 1-for-4 with a run.  Austin Diemer was 0-for-4.  Brandon Easton pitched 1.2 innings, giving up four runs on three hits and five walks with no strikeouts.

GCL TWINS 11, GCL RED SOX 1 AT RED SOX

Batting stars:  Luis Arraez was 3-for-6 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once and driving in two.  Jermaine Palacios was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.
Pitching stars:  Williams Ramirez struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks.  Rich Condeelis struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a hit.  Stephen Pryor pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars:  Devon Fisher was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Pat Goetze pitched two shutout innings, allowing a walk with one strikeout.
The game:  The Twins got two in the third to take a 3-1 lead.  It was still 3-1 through five, but the Twins scored seven in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  The Twins had five doubles and two singles in the inning, but also benefited from two errors, which led to all seven runs being unearned.
Of note:  Lewin Diaz was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Brian Olson was 2-for-5 with a run.
